In honor of National Kidney Month, we here at The Truth About Cancer want to remind you of your precious kidneys… and to share some helpful tips for maintaining good kidney health.
Kidneys are bean-shaped organs located in your lower back on either side of your spine. They release hormones that regulate blood pressure and stimulate red blood cell production. They also maintain fluid levels inside you, filter waste, aid in activating vitamin D, and balance your sodium, potassium, and phosphorous.
It takes about 30 minutes for your kidneys to filter every ounce of blood inside you. It might shock you to learn that kidney (renal) failure is officially the 9th leading cause of death in the U.S. Most people don’t give kidney health much thought − until these vital organs stop working.
If your kidneys fail, it means they’re unable to filter waste from your bloodstream. Within a matter of hours, the toxins inside you can build to a lethal level.
What Happens if Your Kidneys Fail?
You can’t survive without your kidneys. You must have at least one functioning kidney. If both kidneys fail, you are left with two options:
- Dialysis − The only treatment for kidney failure is dialysis. Medical equipment takes over the filtration of your blood, doing the job your kidneys once performed. And it’s ongoing. Once you start dialysis due to renal failure, you’re in it for life. At this time, approximately 468,000 Americans are on long-term kidney dialysis.
- Kidney Transplant − The only other option is a kidney transplant, but demand far outweighs supply (it’s number one on transplant lists). As of 2016, more than 100,000 people in the U.S. alone are awaiting kidney transplants. Sadly, fewer than 17,000 will receive the life-saving organ they need in time.
Experts estimate that 26 million people in the United States have some form of kidney disease and are unaware of it. Annually, kidney disease kills more people than breast cancer or prostate cancer. More than 47,000 people died from kidney disease in 2013. Yet you don’t hear much about it in the mainstream media.
Kidney disease is a “silent” killer. Kidney function deterioration can happen quietly over time. But once your kidneys begin to fail, your health declines quickly. You might experience symptoms or you may have no clue you have kidney disease until you’re tested for an unrelated condition.
10 Symptoms of Failing Kidney Health to Watch Out For
If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
- Less urine output or feeling as if you need to urinate more often
- Dark or pinkish urine, foam in urine
- Retaining fluids; swelling in limbs, abdomen, or face
- Seizure
- Increased sensation of thirst
- Chest pain or pressure
- Extreme fatigue, weakness, or unusual sleepiness
- Problems breathing
- Nausea
- Loss of cognition
Acute kidney failure is usually a side effect of another medical condition. Heart disease and diabetes are the single biggest risk factors for kidney disease.
What Raises Your Personal Risk of Kidney Failure?
- Diabetes (the leading cause of kidney failure)
- High blood pressure (the second leading cause of kidney failure)
- Poor lifestyle habits (smoking, substance abuse, excessive alcohol consumption)
- Obesity
- Chronic inflammation
- Compromised immune function, autoimmune disease, or persistent infections
- Inadequate nutrition
- Sudden blood loss (including surgical procedures)
- Blocks (such as kidney stones) that impair blood flow
- Long-term use of prescription or over-the-counter drugs
- Chronic dehydration
- Traumatic injury to kidneys
- Chemotherapy treatment, test dyes, and antibiotics
- Heavy metal toxicity
- Cancer
Research from Johns Hopkins University (published in American Journal of Kidney Disease) found that patients who are obese have double the risk of developing kidney disease. If you’re a smoker, you have 60 percent more chance of losing the use of your kidneys if they begin to fail.
9 Steps to Protect Your Kidney Health
- Control your blood sugar and check it regularly – 90% of all diabetes cases are type 2, which is 100 percent preventable and reversible
- Know your blood pressure – 20% of people with high blood pressure don’t know they have it because they exhibit no symptoms
- Exercise at least 20 minutes a day (even low impact exercise)
- Lose weight or maintain a healthy body weight
- Drink ½ ounce of water for each pound of bodyweight daily (eg. 150 lbs = 75 ounces of water daily)
- Avoid refined sugars and flours that induce rampant inflammation
- Eat organic when possible (fewer pesticides and additives that bio-accumulate)
- Quit smoking now
- Avoid use of OTC drugs and unnecessary prescriptions
Renal failure is a painful process. Only cancer requires more visits to the doctor for treatments and procedures.
This World Kidney Day take a moment to think about your personal kidney health. Figure out where the worst offenders are in your daily life and lower the toxins you pump through your body.
If you don’t protect these bean-shaped organs, they could literally collapse from exhaustion. Don’t wait until your kidneys fail before you recognize the importance of these under appreciated (and often ignored) organs.
Please take care of the health of your kidneys. You can’t live (long) without your kidneys… and you don’t want to try.

I have had a lifetimes issues with my left (double kidney) constant infections and stones. It’s only recently I’ve found out that I do not metabolize oxalate. Since I have eliminated high oxalate foods (most of which I loved) from my diet, I feel amazing and have had no issues with my kidney’s. if only someone had discovered this out sooner I would have avoided a lifetime of pain and chronic problems with my kidney.
If you have trouble with kidney stones have a nephrologist check to see how you tolerate oxalate. Or just adjust your diet and see if you feel better.
Gluten may hurt intestines/lower nutrients absorbed…then kidney/gall bladder may get stones. Oxalate foods may just be part of the story.
Wow. I have COPD and everytime I get a cold. My lung Dr puts me on levaquin. For awhile it sesec I was getting sick every 3 months. Luckily I haven’t had a problem so to speak of by going to ask and hopeful get tested. Great article
Levaquin has Fluorine in it. Vit A 10.000IU helped me soak air into my lungs. Vit A helped my blood brain barrier/eyes/gut lining/kidneys and more. It helps the immune system and membranes. No gluten may help more nutrients absorb…then cells are made right to work right and may help the immune system. Hidden gluten may hurt. Eating no food with a label may help and eating organic pure foods. 2000mg of fish oil/Viit C/zinc/Mg/Vit D3 5000IU and more may help the immune system. Best wishes.
Highly informative and educative article. Just in time when I am struggling with CKD stage 4/5 and trying to avoid to get into dialysis. Does anybody know how to reduce creatinine level in the blood at this stage and improve my GFR (Glomular Filtration Rate)? Thanks Ty and you are really God sent in my experience. God speaks timely through people like you when in desperate need.
Shan, you very well may want to research AC (activated charcoal) and ionic foot baths. I have seen both with mine eyes as an alternative to what you stated. [for real!! first hand!] It isn’t a matter of not going in…it is a matter that they just speak that the ‘client’ needs to come back later…then sometimes history:). I, being one have seen AC in mine own life turn the head of 2 ND’s and one of my old BioChemist doctors (top notch). They too couldn’t believe the results and told me to NEVER stop what I was doing. Then later…the doctors were prescribing it to their other patents:). I’ve seen the ionic baths do it as well. But please it is important to know some things before embarking. I can speak on those things, but I’m not sure if it will get posted…according to laws, I suppose? [please note, I do not sell anything or affiliated with any group anywhere]
It very well does prevent or replace what you are desperate to not get into…I cannot say it will for you or a name, but I have never seen it fail yet. …that is as long as they do have a partial kidney left.:)
Have a blessed day, and NEVER give up searching,
Wendy
PS…it is the Lord whom told me to take the AC, and when I did heed His instruction, I was so blessed ~ He is ALWAYS right on.:)
There are Facebook groups about kidneys etc. Baking soda is supposed to delay Dialysis? Gluten (Wheat/barley/rye..oats/corn/rice) may hurt kidneys. There are supplements for kidneys on Amazon. Best wishes.
She must have been given mine. I only have one. It’s so sad she was scared, she could have helped at least one person. She possibly could still have donated all 3 of her kidneys after her death. Depends I’m sure on how old she was when she died. I’ve always been a donor. When I was old enough I listed myself as a donor at my death. Having only one puts me in a position of possibly needing a donation so why should I deny someone of help when I no longer need any part of my body anymore. By the way, just because she had 3 doesn’t mean you do too. All my children had 2 even though I had only one.
Ty, just wanted to thank you for all the articles you forward, they are very informative and it is so rewarding to see somebody cares enough to be honest with health information.
I read that one is not supposed to take this if one has kidney problems, is this accurate?
Baking soda? Some people say it prevents needing Dialysis. People take baking soda daily who may not have kidney issues also. I just got some in an IV which helped me. Each person is different.

No gluten/dairy/soy/soy/sugar/GMO may help kidneys. People need to figure out the root cause of the kidney issue, so they can stop the problem and not just cover symptoms.
Jen thank you, very kind words and very true……..
This resource is very well thought out and researched! Thank you so much Ty for all the work that you do and the many lives you are saving!
Fantastic article and right on point. Any organ with fine vascular definition is subject to the destruction brought on by excess insulin (from excess blood glucose). This happens also in the septum of the heart. Heart murmurs may be due to early death of the fine motor control capillaries in the middle of the heart from a lifetime of excess processes carbohydrates and/or smoking toxins.
Don’t forget lots of good old fashion filtered water. I use a Berkey with ceramic and arsenic/flouride filter at home. Hydrate before and after endurance sporting events. Your body will say thank you.
One thing not mentioned in this article is the consumption of damaged polyunsaturated oils now used in practically all box foods, salad dressings, fried and broiled foods and in restaurants. These unsaturated fats are damaged when they are manufactured and further damaged during cooking (especially deep frying). After consumption these damaged fatty acids are carried by LDL proteins to help rebuild the lining of the old and new capillaries and arteries. They are incorporated into the epithelial cells (along with healthy omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids) and function poorly acting as partial root cause for capillary failure (retraction) and atherosclerosis. Eat clean source Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils. No or little cooking, cold first press predominately saturated stable fats. No canola, safflower, peanut, corn, soy, or other polyunsaturated industrial fats are undamaged these days. The body accepts damaged fats as if good and is like building a house with un-fired bricks.
Hi Tessibel, My kidney’s suddenly stopped working as in, no urine was coming out. I was drinking water but no pee.. it was scary as my tummy was getting bigger over a few days, so i went on-line to earthclinic.com and found this natural remedy for taking sodium bicarbonate (arm and hammer) to restart the kidneys..
I only took a quarter tsp. per large glass of water (about 4 to 6 glasses per day) and within an hour or two I was peeing! I could not believe it! so i kept it up for about 1 week and then they seemed to be working normally.. apparently in dialysis clinics, they give sodium bicarbonate to people who are in the gravest danger and it most often helps them and saves their lives.
At that time i went to see my GP and he didn’t feel it was necessary to be concerned about my kidneys.. since the sodium bicarbonate was restoring my ability to urinate, so i insisted on an ultrasound and all that was found was a small kidney stone that was too small to be concerned about!! 🙁 The sodium in sodium bicarbonate is not like the salt that can hurt the kidneys..if you are concerned, check out earthclinic.com and read the testimonials for kidney failure ans SB sodium bicarbonate. Good luck!
The Rice Diet, look up Dr Walter Kempner. I am on it now due to, too much protein in my urine.
In order to avoid kidney problems, avoid drinking sweet drinks and eating things with sugar. Do your own juicing with organic vegetables, fruit, herbs, and spices! Just eat a raw vegan and fruit diet! Make your own smoothies with your favorite fruit! Doing that stuff might make one’s kidneys healthier.
My mother’s kidney Dr. had her on a daily Baking Soda regime to try and save her kidney function. (It helps with the overload of Uric acid) They took her off of it when she started dialysis and she went swiftly downhill. They also took her off of Milk Thistle, which for YEARS kept her liver enzymes normal. She only had one kidney, as years earlier thought it best to take one because they THOUGHT it might have a tumor. It Didn’t! She died because of their recommendation, AT A DIALYSIS TREATMENT! I do BS and I do Milk Thistle and I DON”T do MD’s! Want health? Skip the tossing of lies and do some research. I am not going to be a patient for life to fuel somebody’s pocketbook.
Tag, just a fyi, as I’ve witnessed these first hand, and no, I do not sell anything or promote anything:). Though I have seen these done separately, AC (activated charcoal) and Ionic Foot Baths. And yes, the doctors said they would need what you stated above and to continue so. But when they began, they sent them away…’cause these two things filter the blood!!!:) Yes, AC through the colon filters blood (a huge supply continually comes to the colon (etc.) wall to dump and pick-up things in the blood. Incredible!! And the ionic foot baths filter the blood of quite a bit of things via the feet. AC=several times each day. Foot bath=the same schedule as the other schedule (machine thing) demands times per day. Say they need 3 times per week. They would absolutely need 3 of 50min (for adult) times per week!!! The same schedule…it takes place of…doesn’t become non-existent until/unless ND’s work with patient to improve them.
I’m very sorry, Tag, to hear of your loss and all that you went through when it is clear it was a deep love you had/have for your Mom. Some of us understand exactly what you have been through.
Be blessed.
One EDTA/DMPS IV chelation maybe equal to 40 ionic foot baths? It took one IV chelation to get rid of a cyst due to taking too much Boron and an article said it took many ionic foot baths to do the same. Electrolysis of water may produce colors and the metals/conducting solution may produce colors and particles. I didn’t feel any thing when I tried an ionic foot bath one time.
Shasha, I cannot speak for all ionic foot baths. At one point, I volunteered (just for a short time, due to moving), serving those whom were sick with free (or donation if they could) ionic foot baths etc (many other machines as well). . The owners…I used to call one of them ‘The Mad Scientist’. Yes, he was really intelligent, he and his wonderful wife made an excellent team. They had lost one of their very precious young daughters to cancer treatment and after that, they became serious about a passion to not let that happen to anyone again, whom wanted another way out, I’m sure they would word that much better than I.
Now there, is where I saw this with mine own eyes. Now their ionic foot baths worked. I cannot speak of which one to buy today, for I’m not current/up-to-date on them. And yes, you are right, one will see discolouration of the water no matter if feet are in the water or not. Though, many things do not occur when feet are NOT in, no-way, nor some of the scents (nice word)… . Just take someone whom has been in the military, overseas on duty, and exposed to much in infantry life status. Smell their foot baths when they are done… that says it all! Yeah, plug your nose. That water and container or sink will need to be safely drained away and washed well before anyone else uses it. Take a water sample into a lab and test it. You’d be shocked! Lab work says it all.
No, doing the footbaths is not the same as EDTA/DMPS IV treatments. Actually a lot of individuals should never detox that way… The footbaths are safe and do not require a drain on the body (herx etc). No, there will not be any side-effects after a footbath.
ALTHOUGH ALWAYS EAT A LITTLE APPLE OR SOMETHING HIGH WITH MINERALS AFTER ALL IONIC FOOT BATHS, THAT IS VITAL, AS THERE IS A LITTLE MINERAL LOSS AS WELL AFTER EACH ONE. Or one can drink their sole water, moringa, or camu camu ….or mineral drops (sole is much cheaper and one knows what is in it!)… etc.
Even an old grandpa, it was so fun and exciting to hear and watch him take the foot baths 3 times per week (M-W-Fri) and the doctors telling him that he didn’t need the dial…. . It was so cool, and he had only a partial of one kidney working! And he was indeed old. Awesome believer he was as well. Now if he would have stopped doing the footbaths, he would have needed to do the dial… . It did what he needed, as well for mannnyyyy others.
Seriously, it is a VERY wise investment for someone whom has this issue to research ionic foot baths (I would not recommend one that grounds to the wrist! ~ not sure if those are out there anymore) …and give it a try. What do they lose? They have an opportunity to lose many days off of the ‘dial’ that takes hours with much other exposures, than a simple 50min. foot bath reading the bible or enjoying a book or even doing it outdoors… just no electronics please while doing one.:) Even if this message reduced anothers ‘dials’ even by 1/4%…then my time here typing was WELL worth it.
I actually use AC (though I do have an ionic foot bath ~ the old one that I know works) due to ability to do much much more that I need as well. (when I have an exposure in this toxic area I live in…I take AC anyway and it will take care of the reaction that my vessel goes through ~ amazing stuff! ….so since I take it on a reg. basis, the footbaths are not really needed, if that makes sense.
As I do not recall the doctors name (I can try and get it, if someone wants it…I’ll ask if I can pass it on), but I have been told several years ago, about a doctor whom has worked with some patients with AC as an alternative to ‘dials’… I have not spoken that doctor though, for what I do with AC works for me perfectly. Some individuals would require a lot, some not. (I do not really require a lot:). It is a matter of working up slowly till they say… ummm..you do not need this today….
I’ve a passion for natural health, and a passion to see others whom are suffering to find rest and rejuvenation. Our Lord has taught me so much!! Every word He speaks is so very true. Some bumps in the road are hard in life, but when one sees it bless many so they do not have to go down the same road or it is easier for them than it was I, I have rejoiced many a times over at His goodness.
There is a lot of ‘poor’ information out there, it truly takes discernment to weed through it all. [that is the key]
Also, if someone needs to relieve their discomfort from ‘kid’ pain. I’m sorry, my time is pressing here, but a AC poultice on the lower back over-night will leave one is amazement!! I use psyllium seed husk POWDER (flax is too messy) in mine, it leaves the back not only relaxed, but more flexible after taking it off in AM. (I do put cayenne on top of my poultices for heat, verses using a hot pad…much easier… if one has good circulation they do not need much cayenne at all…if poor, they may find out they need more.
I can explain how I do do the charcoal poultices if needed, though I do them differently than most, there are many on-line I’m sure.
Blessings
EDTA/DMPS IV chelations are safe…did it for 17 years. They are sulfur. You don’t herx. I sleep better after an IV chelation. It unclogs blood vessels and lowers inflammation/swelling and detoxes heavy metals. Hair tests before and after show what is happening to the good minerals/heavy metals. Far Infrared Sauna may detox heavy metals fast, but I feel cooked in it.
Each person has to decide what helps them or hurts them. A battery with wires put into salt water separates the Cl from the Na and more. I did not feel any help from the foot bath, but it was interesting to try it.
Thanks for your information about your experience. Happiness….
I have Lyme. EDTA/DMPS IV chelations help get rid of Lyme cysts and detox endotoxins etc. I drink a lot of distilled water during after the IV chelations so they get the heavy metals through the kidneys. If people drink regular water during the IV chelation the chelation is short circuited due to the minerals in the regular water. Just do what works best for you. Best wishes.

Hello Family. Wow it is all great information everyone has, what Blessings, so much information thank you all, thank you Ty. I have found that most things to do with the urinary tract holds the energy of being Pissed Off, or anger and it can be held in the body until the body says, That is Enough, and gets your attention. reference Louise Hay and others, and in my experience it is true. Maybe we may want to look for the cause. When we throw a stone into a pond, there are ripples sent out. The ripples are not the cause the stone is. Loving Blessings. Alan.
Flouride doesn’t help teeth, that’s a myth and harms a lot. see mercola.com
The Fluoride in tea healed all the pain acid from eating cranberries caused. It helped my teeth heal and prevented me from needing cavities. I wish I knew about it earlier when my son hurt his teeth on lemons. I read Dr. Mercola. Green tea is awesome to heal teeth.

Thank you, Shasha for sharing your story. A lot of people (one being myself) have to be extremely careful of detoxing with EDTA/DMPS. They filter out through the kidneys. Yeah…a natural doctor insisted that I really try those type of things and I did eventually try it, for them…but I had a very bad feeling about it affecting my kidneys putting them over the edge (shot them). So many have been in my shoes…say someone is detoxing mercury through the kidneys….mercury shoots holes in the kidneys.
This is what is great about AC (activated charcoals)…it filters via the digestive tract system…it is a win ~ win all around.
I’m really happy it worked for you. A lot out there with true kidneys that are in a very harsh state….need to be EXTREMELY careful/cautious of detoxing with any compound that filters out through the kidneys. (especially those with Lyme to top it off)
Hmmm, Shasha interesting, I can see why you would state that (distilled water). I’ll remember that for future research/study, thou as yourself, have had awesome success with the avenue travelled, as you have yours:), which is awesome, …this could be key for others whom embark on those treatments.
Be blessed yourself, Shasha, and may your health be doubly as well in your journey to good and strong health.
And I’m sorry you have had the journey of Lyme. So many out there. Best wishes your way as well.
Thanks! I have had Lyme for 3 years. The hospital took away my Alternative protocol and thyroid medicine…said I didn’t need it, but I did so I crashed more and ended up in ICU due to what they took away and now my adrenals are burned out. I am doing ozone which is awesome help and herbs/detoxing etc.. I am glad people can rebuild their health with Alternative help! God bless!
You do not need to respond, I just feel bad for not saying: My heart weeps reading stories as yours. How often these type of things happen… esp. to children. Truly glad you made it through and you are out there helping others with vital information that could certainly save their own lives from such stories. May all your treatments abound in success beyond your imagination. God bless you as well, Shasha. Keep up the good work/fight:). [the last place I want to ever go to….is a hospital]
