Monsanto has agreed to be sold to Bayer for $56.5 billion − a deal worth a total of $66 billion when Monsanto’s debt is taken into account. The combined company would be the world’s largest seller of both seeds and agrichemicals.
Monsanto, arguably the most loathed GMO company on the face of the earth, has been the subject of heated discussions for decades, especially in recent days as their top-selling product (RoundUp) contains glyphosate, which has been linked to cancer, autism, and respiratory sickness.
Monsanto has lobbied widely and even filed lawsuits to prohibit labeling of GMO products and bury the World Health Organization’s report listing glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. If Monsanto joins forces with Bayer (one of the most hated Big Pharma companies in the world), the resulting “marriage made in hell” would be a drug-seed-pesticide company that controls almost 1/3 of the world’s seed market and almost ¼ of the pesticide market. Many would argue that this would equate to a monopoly. More on that topic later in the article.
But this would not be the first time Monsanto and Bayer have teamed up. During the Vietnam War, both firms were involved in the development of Agent Orange. And both firms are currently involved in the GMO market today. Speaking of GMOs, I was watching Fox News Channel a couple of days ago and the “expert” being interviewed said that this was necessary in order to feed the world and that GMO foods are the only solution. WRONG!
Apparently said “expert” is unfamiliar with the recent research, specifically the IAASTD Report, which is the most comprehensive report on the future of food and agriculture (sponsored by the World Bank and the UN, written by over 400 scientists and endorsed by 59 countries).
In this report, they did not endorse GMOs as a solution to world hunger. In addition, genetic engineering has not significantly increased U.S. crop yields, according to the USDA and controlled comparative studies. As a matter of fact, many GMOs have lower yields than non-GMO crops. Did I mention that GMO crops have been linked to cancer and have numerous potential health risks?
Let’s look at the sordid history of both of these companies…
A Brief History of BAYER
• Founded in Barmen, Germany in 1863 by Friedrich Bayer and his partner, Johann Friedrich Weskott.
• During World War 1, Bayer turned its attention to the manufacture of chemical weapons including chlorine gas.
• In 1925, Bayer, BASF, and Hoechst merged to form the massive German conglomerate Interessengemeinschaft Farben (IG Farben) which was the single biggest donor to Hitler’s election campaign.
• IG Farben built the concentration camps at Auschwitz to supply slave labor for the nearby IG Farben plant (also known as IG Auschwitz). Hitler eventually used these same camps in his megalomaniacal attempt to exterminate the Jewish race.
• In 1941, Otto Armbrust, the IG Farben board member responsible for IG Farben’s Auschwitz project, told his colleagues, “our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company.”
• A subsidiary of IG Farben manufactured and supplied Zyklon B to the SS. This poisonous cyanide-based pesticide, on which IG Farben held the patent, was used during the Holocaust to annihilate more than 1,000,000 people in the concentration/extermination camps. IG Farben also supplied the SS with the Methanol used to burn the corpses.
• In 1946, the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal concluded that without IG Farben the Second World War would simply not have been possible.
• At Nuremberg, Fritz ter 
Meer (an executive of IG Farben) was convicted of slavery, mass murder, and crimes against humanity. After serving 5 years in prison, he became Chairman of the Board at Bayer in 1956, a position which he held for almost a decade.
• In 1962, just fifteen years after they were convicted in the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal, Bayer, BASF and Hoechst were again the architects of the next major human rights offence when they established the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
• In the mid-1980s, Bayer was one of the companies which sold a product called Factor VIII concentrate to treat hemophilia. Factor VIII turned out to be infected with HIV. After learning that the product was contaminated, in order to save money, Bayer continued selling this infected product to Asia and Latin America even though a safe product was available. Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, who investigated the scandal, commented, “These are the most incriminating internal pharmaceutical industry documents I have ever seen.”
• In the 1990s, the federal government launched an investigation on Bayer’s unethical billing practices on Medicaid program and the Department of Justice found Bayer guilty of fraud. Bayer had to pay $14 Million to settle charges of causing inflated Medicaid claims.
• Yaz (approved by FDA in 2006) and Yasmin (2001) were revolutionary birth control pills that use a synthetic hormone called drospirenone (DSP). Yaz or Yasmin have led to hundreds of deaths in young and healthy women.
• The drug Trasylol was banned in 2006 after it contributed to thousands of deaths in patients every single month for over a decade. After a 2006 study showed widespread deaths associated with Trasylol, it took FDA and Bayer almost two years to take the drug off of the market. Later on it was revealed that Bayer had buried evidence of Trasylol’s severe side effects.
• In 2008, the German Coalition against Bayer brought a charge against the Bayer Board of Management, with the public prosecutor in Freiburg accusing Bayer of contributing to the mass death of bees all over the world through its aggressive pesticide marketing. Since then, the bee debacle has only grown worse, with thousands of hives collapsing after poisoning by the pesticide clothianidin, producing a worldwide crisis.

MONSANTO’S Poisonous Past
• Monsanto was founded in 1901 in St. Louis, Missouri, by John Francis Queeny, a 30-year veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. Its first product was the artificial sweetener Saccharin, which Monsanto sold to the Coca-Cola Company.
• In the 1920s, Monsanto Chemical Company was founded and incorporated the town of Monsanto, later renamed Sauget, Illinois. For years, the Monsanto plant in Sauget was the nation’s largest producer of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were banned in the 1970s. PCBs are potent carcinogens and have been implicated in reproductive, developmental and immune system disorders. According to thousands of pages of released Monsanto documents (many of them emblazoned with warnings such as “CONFIDENTIAL: Read and Destroy”), they knew about the PCB dangers from early on, but decided to conceal what they knew. One Monsanto memo explains their justification: “We can’t afford to lose one dollar of business.”
• During World War II, Monsanto played a significant role in the Manhattan Project to develop the atom bomb.
• In 1944, Monsanto began manufacturing DDT, which was banned in 1972.
• Following World War II, Monsanto championed the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture, and began manufacturing the herbicide 2,4,5-T, which contains dioxin. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military initiated an herbicidal warfare program using Agent Orange (a mixture of 2,4,5-T and 2,4-D and had very high concentrations of dioxin) as a defoliant.
Monsanto and Dow Chemical were the two largest producers of Agent Orange, which has been linked to cancer and birth defects. According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to Agent Orange, resulting in 400,000 deaths and disabilities, plus 500,000 children born with birth defects, leading to calls for Monsanto to be prosecuted for war crimes. Internal Monsanto memos show that Monsanto knew of the problems of dioxin contamination of Agent Orange when it sold it to the U.S. government for use in Vietnam.
• In 1973, Monsanto developed and patented the glyphosate molecule and began manufacturing Roundup. In 2015, the World Health Organization declared glyphosate to be a probable carcinogen. Despite this fact, Roundup is still marketed as “safe.”
• In 1982, Monsanto genetically modified a plant cell for the first time.
• In the mid-1980s, Monsanto purchased G.D. Searle, the chemical company that held the patent to aspartame, the active ingredient in NutraSweet. Monsanto was apparently untroubled by aspartame’s clouded past, including a 1980 FDA Board of Inquiry, comprised of three independent scientists, which confirmed that it “might induce brain tumors.” The aspartame business became a separate Monsanto subsidiary, the NutraSweet Company.
• In the late-1980s and early-1990s, Monsanto spent almost $500,000 to defeat Proposition 65 (California’s anti-toxics initiative which prohibited the discharge of chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects into drinking water supplies) and Proposition 128 (California’s pesticide regulation initiative that would have phased out Monsanto’s product alachlor, which is linked to cancer). During the same time period, Monsanto also conducted the first field tests of genetically engineered (GMO) crops.
• In 1991, Monsanto was fined $1.2 million for trying to conceal discharge of contaminated waste water into the Mystic River in Connecticut.
• In the mid-1990s, Monsanto developed their controversial cattle drug, recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST), which is produced through a genetically engineered E. coli bacteria.
• During the same time period, Monsanto was ranked 5th among U.S. corporations in EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory, having discharged 37 million pounds of toxic chemicals into the air, land, water and underground. Monsanto was ordered to pay $41.1 million to a waste management company in Texas due to concerns over hazardous waste dumping.
• In 1996, Monsanto introduced “Roundup Ready Soybeans” and “BT Cotton” then in 1998 “Roundup Ready Corn” was introduced.
• By 2007, Monsanto’s GMO seeds accounted for over 90% of the world’s supply.
• In 2010, former Monsanto lobbyist Michael R. Taylor was appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety at the FDA (the fox is guarding the henhouse).
• Since 2012, Monsanto has spent more than $25 million to fight state ballot initiatives to label GMOs and millions more to lobby Congress against mandatory GMO labeling.

Bayer Monsanto Union: A Dark and Dangerous Threat
The above bullet points about Bayer and Monsanto are merely the tip of the iceberg. I could have written an entire book detailing the unscrupulous activities that these companies have engaged in over the past century. But I think you get the point. This “hidden” history of Bayer and Monsanto indicates that both of these companies have consistently been involved with malevolent endeavors that wreaked havoc on humanity and caused sickness, pain, and death on a massive scale. These companies are like a cancer eating away at the physical fabric of our world.
If these two companies join forces, the dark and dangerous synergy and malignant power will metastasize and be so great that, figuratively speaking, the universe might explode! To use a Lord of the Rings analogy, it would be like Sauron acquiring the One Ring.
Will this merger actually happen? It’s hard to say. Thankfully, there are anti-trust laws in place that will force the entire deal to undergo tremendous scrutiny and lengthy regulatory processes in the USA as well as the EU. “This merger is not a slam dunk,” said Diana Moss, president of the American Antitrust Institute. Also, a legal opinion written by two former Department of Justice officials (Antitrust Division) argues that the merger would violate the Clayton Act and would also be in direct violation of a 2008 court order.
A Bayer-Monsanto merger certainly threatens the world food supply with domination by GMOs and destructive, carcinogenic agrochemicals. Thanks primarily to the anti-GMO and “Millions Against Monsanto” movements, the behemoth biotech bully is on the ropes.
Perhaps Monsanto thinks that if it changes its name, that we will forget its poisonous past. Think again Monsanto.
On October 14-16, Monsanto’s crimes against humanity will be exposed at the Monsanto Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.
Remember, all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing. We must stick together and help educate our neighbors in order to continue the good fight together… for our children and every future generation to come.
Perhaps it’s time to put Bayer and Big Pharma on trial as well and build an even bigger worldwide unified assembly. Maybe we could call it “Billions Against Big Pharma and Bayer-Monsanto.”

I’m 59 and allergic to anything near a penicillin drug, but I have taken Cipro about 5 times because it isn’t systemic. I do agree with ChilKat, it is vital to find out the bottom line bacterial strain you are dealing with. My husband works in Hospital Labs all over the US and those med techs that care can usually tell you the best doctor’s simply by what tests they order or don’t order under different circumstances. Stay positive, be aware of what your doctor prescribes, ask questions but most of all don’t worry about the past. A good diet can get rid of many toxins in our bodies. Oh, and drink good water, lots of it with Cipro. Doctor’s only have to take about a semester of pharmacology, that doesn’t give them much knowledge of the drugs they prescribe and the only way they keep up to date is literature, seminars and drug reps all of which usually have an agenda of their own. If you really want more info on a drug ask a good pharmacist (I started calling Universities and asking for the pharmacy dept. or research dept. They can give you honest answers whereas many pharmacists have their hands (and mouth) sealed because they can’t tell you anything that would go against the doctor’s script).

Thank you for bringing this massive issue to the community. In 2008 I completed my thesis university work on GM foods and researched Monsanto extensively. It was much more difficult to reaearch them back then but I was guided and found what I needed.
I was mortified of the destruction of the very life force meant to sustain us and terrified by Monsantos wrong use of power to dissapear scientists speaking out and such.
I’m sorry to see they still have such great power and hope they are stopped in their tracks. I also have faith in the organizations, individuals and collective energy that work towards putting an end to such a destructive force.

Having done research on the new technology called a “gene drive”…. where there is the distinct possibility of the actual genes of a whole species to be irreversably modified– I am horrified. After understanding what is capable with a gene drive (complete and total extermination of whole species) the only comfort that I had was that no scientist would ever pull the trigger because the consequences would be so disastrous. Of course, that comfort disappears completely when I look at the history of both Bayer and Monsanto, who have both behaved intolerably throughout their whole existence.
They will also be the ones to “PROFIT” by unleashing a deadly gene drive on normal food sources. It is technologically possible to cause the extinction of all wheat (except for that wheat that has been genetically modified in some unique proprietary gene). In other words…. A corrupt seed company could theoretically cause all of their competitors seeds to die on a global scale…. and only their custom genetically modified seed strain would be immune from the extermination.

I am so sick and tired of even the name Monsanto. My daddy died 50 years ago working for them. He actually worked in 245T and Agent Orange. As far as I’m concerned THEY killed him! Back then everything was hush, hush, all he was doing was trying to make an honest living to provide for me and my mother. I am also sick and tired of them as well as others tampering with our food. I already have digestive issues and I will NEVER eat Roundup ready corn. Leave our food supply alone! I have always been scared of man made drugs. I was on Prevastatin for about 3-4 years now. But when Ty sent me the newsletter on the Statin Drugs causing cancer, I stopped it immediately..I am no longer taking that junk..I have started juicing and eating healthier and hopefully that will get my cholesterol down..We live in a very scary world where people don’t care anymore if they are responsible for the deaths of people..All for the gain of money..When the LORD comes back, they will have the greater damnation. People have a difficult time comprehending the fact that a perceived baby aspirin company was involved in the inhuman experimentation at Auschwitz. It blew my mind too while watching TTAC and even more while further researching the Nuremberg War Crimes. None of us have the enzymes or the good bacteria to digest GMOs and glyphosate. If those chemicals explode the insides of the bacteria that build our immunity–what chance do we have as humans? Running off to a safer country is ridiculous. There is no safe place on this earth. Evil is everywhere. Learn to grow your own food in your backyards. Raise a few hens in your yards for fresh eggs. Learn to take care of any health problems using supplements. I no longer plant ornamentals, if it doesn’t produce something I can eat; it doesn’t get planted in my landscape. You don’t need a very large yard to put in raised beds & grow more than you can eat. We all need to become independent & self sustaining. Get on the learning curve now while still time.

Maybe it’s just in my little corner of the world but what I see is that so many people just don’t care about these things and they certainly don’t want to take the time to read and learn about it. Apathy is a real problem in our society which is why the gov’t and these companies are getting away with so much. It’s a piece of cake for them…no one cares and those who do are looked at like they’re fanatics, freaks and conspiracy theorists so very few believe them. So many people still believe the gov’t is looking out for our best interest. It’s necessary to get information out but when it continues to fall on so many deaf ears there may need to be some changes in how we go about it. Besides getting the word out we also need to be praying because there really is no other answer. There is nothing God can’t do.

My neighbor worked for a dog food company, Purina, and part of his job was adding hundreds of pounds of red dye to the mix of food for dogs to eat. such a shame.

At the store level… as per a Frest Market representative, fresh produce is shipped just barely above freezing as per FDA mandate…. It hits the store, may sit out on pallets for a while before being transferred to the cooling produce area, but by then, it’s already started to degrade. Waste is ginormis! I’ve seen almost entire display of organic tender spring mix packed into their plastic containers, rotting away. So SAD!

I was listening to the CBC (Canada) this morning and they were bringing a kind of interview show about the proposed merger. They started out by interviewing Canadian farmers at a farm show who only sung the praises of Monsanto and GMOs. Subsequent interviews spoke with less entheusiasm, but still mainly positive, concentrating more on the consolidation of corporations rather than the ubiquity of GMOs in our food. “Useful idiots” I would call them. Recently I was in one of the larger grocery stores here and asked the cashier, who has worked there for years, if a certain product was GMO. She asked, “What’s GMO?” !!! Well, we can still hope that the merger will be denied since the process of approval is long and convoluted. Like InalienableWrights I too beiieve in the free market, but this is not a question of free market, it is a matter of collusion to defraud and control people. As John Lennon sang, “The way things are going, they’re going to crucify me.” Humanity is being crucified, and the powers that be that could stop this are, like Pontius Pilate, washing their hands of the responsibility, But he also said, “See to it yourselves.” This is just another analogy to keep in mind.

Fresh, raw garlic (either regular or elephant garlic) will help fight off infections. Try chopping it and putting it in some tomato sauce. It is potent, but it works for me, at least for cystitis.
Just wanted to mention what works for me. I have also had cancer. I have found that antibiotics do not work for me for infections but pure oregano oil does. And quickly. About 3 days of 3-4 capsules a day always does it for me whereas I would have to go through at least 2 rounds of antibiotics and still not have it work. I can’t stand the taste of the oil though so I fill the large capsules you can buy at most health food and drug stores. Just thought it might be worth a try for you.

I think it is time for us to begin to march back on Washington DC so they can pay attention to us. They are not listning and do not care what we have to say. Refuse to buy the products from Monsanto & Bayer. Ask your retailer to not stock their chemicals like Round-up, etc. If you shop at big stores like Costco, ask them to not sell farmed fish. If each individual can do their small bit, it will grow.

That has to be the most sensible advise I have read. Get off your backsides and take care of yourself and family holistically by growing your own food, by making your own garden compost, raising your own chickens, investing in a safe water system, finding a source where you can get heritage seeds – everything you need to know is on the net if you search. Take a stand instead of complaining and adding to the fear. We need to all raise our vibration to positivity. I got a urinalysis showing a small amount of blood a few months ago. My doctor wanted to order a fluoroquinolone (that is what Cipro is) antibiotic.
The name was not conclusive so I looked it up online. Then I asked my doctor to order a different antibiotic. Apparently, he had no idea ow bad those drugs are.
I have found that is pays to check EVERY drug your doctor orders to find out the good, bad & ugly.

When Bayer acquires Monsanto, what we happen is Bayer’s drug business and agriculture business will come under heavy attack globally and their bottom line will be badly affected. Bayer will not have the strong US government support that Monsanto enjoyed, and US politicians will have less reason to support GMO initiatives. The Germans in turn will find that Bayer becomes their most condemned company, and they wont know how to counter the attacks globally. I live in New Zealand, where nation is like sheep, people are so naive, they believe there GOVT does only good for them. Glyphosate is in a wide use here, NZ is GMO country. People do not want to see it. I do not know how to wake them up, so they see what is happening. When I tell some one about Glyphosate – the usual answer is – no, if it would be toxic, our Govt would not allow using it. I think – we all have to sign a Global petition against Monsanto. I learned to hate Bayer as a child. My father’s side of the family had all but been murdered by Hitler and Bayer. There were 3 Pharma companies that participated in Hitler’s Pharma production, all just in an effort to find cures for himself. I’m adopted, but I loved my Father and the story’s he started talking about were easily as horrible as anything you have ever seen on those that were used as guinea pigs in their experiments. (I love guinea pigs, so don’t take the species literally). My parents avoided medications from those times like they were all poison. As for Monsanto, I think the only really great thing they have done was to put up a ride in the old version of Disneyland! Where I live, we have some massive organic farms that have taught us all to appreciate organic foods and to avoid Monsanto products like the plague. Rather let the deer have their share and have people stop by a farm to help weed than bring in Monsanto products.

I agree with Loneoak. I live in Australia it’s still pretty good here but you still have to KNOW what you eat, where it came from etc. Grow your own Vegies if you can, don’t spray tem with poison. We grow ours in Tubs, Beans, Tomatoes, garlic etc

Over a two year period, we tested a rice field, split in half. One half was fertilized with conventional fertilizer and pesticides. The other half was fertilized with compost mixed with biochar (no pesticides). Both years the organic fertilized half came out with a substantial higher yield then the chemically treated half; the first year the organic fertilized field came out with a 22% higher yield and the second year it was even higher.

Hi to LA. I’m so sorry for your infection. My husband fought a bone infection (called Brodie’s access) for 5 years. Three surgeries, 3 IV bag antibiotics treatments, and about 2 years worth of high dose strong antibiotics…..which did not fix it. With so many drugs and antibiotics in his system, it was overloads and killing him. Detox your system. Get the junk out. Build your system with good, natural healing stuff. It will take time, but be relentless. We are overjoyed and amazed what we saw before our eyes as he healed….without drugs, only nature. And prayer. I have been on antibiotics (3) for 10 months for pulmonary MAC and now have to go on Cipro for another pulmonary bacterial infection. I took goldenseal powder for listeria (the infection that landed me in ER) – 1 tsp. twice daily, and was symptom free in 4 days. I’m following up with Nutricology artemisinin for about a month (please research thoroughly, as it has to be done a certain way). And another powerful natural antibiotic I’d like you to research for yourself is mega-dose vitamin C, with which I have a very long and effective history of use. There is darkness in this world for a purpose – to challenge us all to wake from our slumber and look for the Light. To “push” us to the Light, as it were. To take back the power over our own lives, in even a small way, we must take charge of what we allow into our lives, our bodies, and our minds. For me, that means distilling my own water to remove toxins (Megahome countertop home distiller), growing some of my own vegetables, eating clean, making my own personal care products (toothpaste, skin cream, cologne, body powder. While I agree with some of the concerns in this article, saying GMOs are evil and don’t help farmers is ludicrous. Why would farmers plant more expensive GMO’s if they weren’t more profitable and productive. And they replace toxic pesticides greatly reducing potential for harm to farmers and consumers alike. Thousands have been sickened eating Chipotles non-GMO meals while there has been a big zero hurt by GMO’s.
