Veterinarian Dr. Barbara Royal’s cancer journey began in 2001 when she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma on her arm. Barbara was an avid sailer and doctors blamed her melanoma on sun exposure. They also advised her that even though they removed the spot, that she had 100% chance the cancer would return and wouldn’t be good. Barbara’s cousin had died from malignant melanoma and it ran in her family, so this was very concerning.
However, Barbara is an integrative vet and decided to start treating herself holistically the same way she would her animal patients. She changed up her diet and started on specific supplements she thought would be beneficial for melanoma and skin in general.
It’s now 2017 and Barbara is healthier than ever and still cancer free. She teaches other veterinarians her approach to health and credits her own cancer journey as the inspiration for her new vocation. Watch the video above to hear more about Barbara’s story.
