Hippocrates might be credited with saying “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food,” but biochemist Dr. Johanna Budwig is known for making this belief a reality.7
One of the top experts on fats and oils in the 1950s, Dr. Budwig found that the right combination of quark or cottage cheese and flaxseed oil has therapeutic properties in preventing, treating, and even curing cancer.1,4 Known as the Budwig Diet, could this diet protocol beat cancer?
Dr. Budwig’s Discoveries
How did Dr. Budwig derive her understanding that this simple strategy has major therapeutic properties? While researching the pathogenesis of disease and illness as a biochemist in Germany, Dr. Budwig observed that quark (a soft fresh cheese) contained the very same sulphydryl groups found in cancer treatment drugs. These sulphydryl groups are cysteine and methionineamino acids.4
While researching fats and oils, Dr. Budwig further established that essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, referred to as PUFAs, are major components of cellular membranes.4 Without a properly functioning cellular membrane, cells lose the ability to perform vital life processes such as cellular respiration and the ability to divide and form new cells.
The two essential polyunsaturated fatty acids critical for cell membrane support are:
- Linoleic Acid (LA): Better known as omega-6 fatty acids.
- Linolenic Acid (LNA): Commonly referred to as omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids have been recognized for their anticancer properties and roles in preventing sickness and disease.4
Cottage Cheese and Flaxseed Oil Work to Re-energize Cells
A chemical reaction takes place when the sulphydryl groups in quark or cottage cheese bind with the unsaturated fatty acids in flaxseed oil.3,4 This reaction allows the flaxseed to become water soluble and enter into a cell to supply energy.
Imagine the cells in your body are the same as the battery in a car. Our cells also require electrical energy in order to run and energize all of our life-giving biological functions. In order for a dead car battery to be recharged, it requires jumper cables to supply an electrical current from a good battery. The combination of quark or cottage cheese and flaxseed oil work together and function like jumper cables.
In her research, Dr. Budwig’s cancer patients had improved oxygen supply to their cells and found relief from all forms and stages of cancer including cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, brain, breast, and skin cancers.1,2,5,6
How to Make the Budwig Diet Protocol a Lifestyle
Dr. Budwig advised specific recommendations in order to beat cancer.1 The following is a list of guidelines for using her protocol:
- Drink only purified water
- Receive adequate amounts of sunshine to stimulate healing in the mind and body
- Eliminate all processed foods from your diet
- Do not consume sugar, meat, or animal fat
- Prepare only fresh and organic fruits and vegetables
- Prepare and eat foods immediately, never use leftovers
- Avoid all drugs and supplements
- Always grind flaxseeds fresh and consume within 15 minutes of grinding
- Mix quark or cottage cheese and flaxseed oil in a 2:1 ratio and blend until no visible oil remains floating
- Do not mix in added ingredients until final cheese mixture results
Further Recommendations for the Budwig Diet
If suffering from cancer, Dr. Budwig recommended consuming up to 8 tablespoons of flaxseed oil (in the mixture) daily. Otherwise, 1 tablespoon per day of flaxseed oil can be taken to prevent cancer.1
The pathogenesis of cancer can be stimulated by toxins in our environment and all sources of these toxins should be eliminated. This includes trans fats, genetically modified foods, and carcinogen-ridden cooking tools such as Teflon coated pans and plastic.6
Since Dr. Budwig’s research, other cancer experts have introduced similar cancer treatment protocols designed to stimulate cellular health and function by improving cellular respiration, strengthening immunity, reducing body acidity, and limiting carcinogens in the body.1,2,4
Reverse Cancer Naturally with the Budwig Diet
Dr. Budwig’s research has had a domino effect on influencing the scientific and medical community. Since her research, the last 50 years of science involves the study of fats and oils and the effects that these components have on our bodies.4
If you want to give Dr. Budwig’s Diet protocol a try for beating cancer, you must begin by purchasing high quality ingredients to promote optimal health and healing. For example, Barlean’s cold pressed flax oil with no added lignins can be found in the refrigerator section of health food stores. It is contained in a dark bottle and should never be used past its expiration date.1
Nancy’s brand of organic low fat cottage cheese contains probiotics and enzymes which even those with dairy sensitivities may tolerate. People living in many European countries will have access to quark.
Purchasing lower quality cottage cheese inhibits the necessary chemical reaction from occurring between the sulphydryl groups and fatty acids. Preservatives and hormones in poor quality cheeses coupled with high heat pasteurization processes destroy the quality sulfur-containing protein.
Step-By-Step Instructions for Preparing the Budwig Diet Mixture
You can prevent and even reverse cancer naturally by implementing strategies of the Budwig Diet Protocol. Use these step-by-step instructions to prepare your own fresh Budwig Diet mixture.
Remember, 1 tablespoon of flax oil plus 2 tablespoons of organic low fat cottage cheese or quark is recommended for every 100 pounds of an individual. The recipe can be adjusted according to dosage needs as well as for its intended purpose to treat the severity of cancer symptoms.
- Place 1 tablespoon of cold pressed flaxseed oil into a glass container.
- Mix in 2 tablespoons of organic, low fat (2% or less) cottage cheese OR quark.
- Never by hand, and preferably using an immersion blender, blend the two foods for 1 minute. This will result in a whipped cream like consistency.
- Grind 2 tablespoons of either golden or brown flaxseeds in a coffee grinder for 1 minute until an airy, fluffy appearance results. Place ground flaxseed in a separate glass bowl. Add the cheese and oil mixture to the ground flax seed and stir with a spoon to combine.
Additional add-ins including organic fruits, nuts, and spices can be added on top for a tasty meal.

I was just wondering if it matters when you take the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil? And do you have to take it on an empty stomach. I have been taking it in the evening for a snack for prevention.

In 2012 I was diagnosed with colon cancer they took half my colon and told me they got it all I was cured go live my life I did had a candy bar at the grocery checkout all sorts of things the standard American diet in 2014 it came back as stage 4: cancer. I was told I only had a short time to live unless I did chemo and surgery there were three tumors in my liver and had metastasized. I started one chemo and they stopped it couple days before I would finish the pill they wanted to do surgery so I went for surgery to get the tumors out of my liver as an X-ray tech I know what to look for so I got the CD and it turned out they only got one of the three then I found budwig. Lots of prayer and following the budwig diet precisely until 4 and 1/2 years later I started cheating on the diet that was probably mid 2018. But still did most of it. I do love potato chips and a few other things. Show by 2021 I pretty much went off the diet but I didn’t eat meat. My colon cancer markers cea have pretty much stayed in the normal range between 2 and 3. This time they have gone up. So I’m trying to get back on the budwig diet it’s just so hard I have eaten the same thing day and night all these years but I do believe God and budwig have kept me alive with the one chemo and surgery August 2021 I’m still here..
Helen Wallman says
I’m Hypothyroid, I understand flax seed & flax seed oil suppresses the Thyroid
Lloyd Jenkins says
No that is a myth and if you have thyroid issues a drop of Lugol’s iodine every day will be very helpful
Debra says
I was told if you have her2 positive breast cancer you should avoid all dairy. So can you actually have the Budwig quark in this scenario? How will it help?
mountaingrannys says
Helen, no flax seed and flax seed oil do not suppress the thyroid, it is actually good for the thyroid and the whole body.
Rob says
For those who cant stomach the taste, mix in 1-tsp elderberry syrup to cut the taste.
My kids eat this every night. We usually do 1/2 cup organic cottage cheese, 2-tbs organic flax oil, 1-tbs organic elderberry syrup, 1/4 cub frozen organic mixed berries (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry), 1-tsp cinnamon, 1-tsp organic black chiiseeds, 1-tsp organic flax seeds, 1-tsp hemp harts. About every other day we add in 1/2-tsp Redmond clay.
Britt Sansom says
I am completely dairy intolerant. The slightest amount triggers a four day migraine. Is there any way I can substitute the cottage cheese?
Lloyd Jenkins says
There is really no good substitute for the dairy and if you are totally intolerant the best product we have found is CELLTRAMAX sold at: http://www.LifeIntegrativeMed.com which is sold in capsules. Also it is wonderful when you are travelling to carry these with you when its too hard to make the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese mixture
Linda says
I use 2 tablespoons barlean’s flaxseed oil 4 tablespoons cottage cheese well Blended until fluffy then I add about 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon which helps with sugar levels. One banana banana a few strawberries Blended and 2 Tblsp ground flaxseeds then top with walnuts four or five Brazil nuts and a few almonds. Great breakfast.
Annie says
Question…does Organic Ghee (clarified butter) have the same chemical reaction as using cottage cheese ? So could I use Ghee instead of cottage cheese w the flaxseed oil and have the same results as mentioned above? Thank you for advise.
Linda says
The three books translated to English are….. the oil protein diet cookbook, cancer the problem and the solution, flax oil as a true Aid against arthritis heart infarction cancer and other diseases these are the three written by dr. Budwig the other ones a written by others or they’ve taken hers and changed a few things.
drjockers says
Unfortuntately not, the ghee doesn’t have the sulfur containing proteins. But grass-fed ghee is very good and is loaded with CLA, retinol, omega-3’s, butyrate and a whole bunch of other cancer fighting nutrients.
drjockers says
Best to not follow this protocol then Britt. You could always do organic, pasture-raised eggs which are also rich in sulfur proteins.
Lloyd Jenkins says
Vegetable Powders, Eggs, Nuts or Garlic – Dr. Budwig would never approve of any of these substitutes for the following reasons: Dr. Budwig was aware of the Vegan alternative, BioSan’s Companion Nutrients, but she disregarded companion nutrients completely when she was asked by a Swedish professor for quark alternatives for his client, former president, Bill Clinton. And there is no indication that they work.
The same is true of vegetable protein powder instead of cottage cheese, over the 16 years I have been researching cancer remedies and studying the Budwig protocol here at the Budwig Center, I have not had any patients or heard of any cancer healing testimonials on record, achieved with the help of BioSan’s Companion Nutrients, powdered vegetable protein or other substitutes.
Based upon USDA food tables, leeks, chives, garlic, cabbage, red pepper and asparagus contain sulphur but not sulphurated proteins in any appreciable amount. We need to keep in mind that it is not the sulfur in vegetables that we are after but the sulfurated proteins. So while these vegetables (as well as many other foods) do contain sulphurated proteins, but the problem is that they do not contain them nearly at the levels required for the Budwig flaxoil/cottage cheese mixes.
Egg yolks would be a better choice but they are much too fatty for consideration in the Budwig diet and the consumption of eggs, even organic free range is controversial as nowhere did she approve of them directly.
Britt Sansom says
Sounds good.We eat plenty of those from our free range hens. Thanks for your reply. What should the proportions of flaxseed to eggs be ?
Wes Thomas says
Is it possible to use hemp seed oil instead of flax seed oil ?? Flax oil goes rancid quickly
drjockers says
I prefer hemp seed oil as well Wes! But it isn’t the original Budwig protocol of course.
Michael says
Hi, I have been using Budwig formula of cottage cheese and Flaxoil for many months in fighting Cancer. I was unaware that I needed to use NANCY’S which is not in my neighborhood. I have been using Daisy lowfat or Breakstones as I thought they were reliable brands. Are you sayng that Pasteurization destroys the effectiveness of this diet ? And does Nancys’ not pasteurize ?
Annie Hitchings says
Its really important that you use FULL FAT cottage cheese as Joanna Budwig never advocated the use of low fat products. The fat in the cheese is the point…
Robyne Chamberlain says
If I cant get organic full fat cottage cheese should I being using non-organic? I have to say the taste of the non organic supermarket varity is salty and very artificial compared to the very high quality low fat one I have been using.
Dr. Lloyd Jenkins says
ONLY use low fat 2% fat content or less. Dr. Budwig was not in favor of much in the way of animal fats and so the low fat is what is being used by all the experts in the Budwig protocol and at the Budwig Center. If you use a full fat it will not mix properly with the flaxseed oil
Stacey says
My husband has stage 4 prostate cancer and we desperately followed the complete Budwig distance protocol. This was after trying all natural remedies For a year and a half…. All organic All vegan … no drugs. I feel this was a huge mistake for him, his PSA is up to 2070 during all of this. We will now try the traditional route as much as I hate to,
it is our last road in this battle.

Kevin says
Essiac tea also helps with chemo side effects, according to some.
Lloyd Jenkins says
Stacey we must keep in mind that the PSA is a gauge but not a truly accurate one.
The New England Journal of Medicine in 2009 that showed no difference in mortality rates between men who received PSA screening and those who didn’t.
According to many clinicans, the PSA test is unwarranted at best, and dangerous at worse since it can begin a cascade of medical procedures that are unnecessary and harmful. A high PSA test can occur when you have finished a long bike ride, or just come from a hot yoga class; or have inflammation that is unrelated to cancer (and should be addressed in ways significantly different from the ways cancer should be addressed); or that you have recently ejaculated; or that you recently had a prostate or bladder exam that involved a scope or biopsy; or that you have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate that is not prostate cancer; or that you have a urinary tract infection; or merely that you are getting older, as PSA does tend to rise with age.
The PSA test in itself is not the problem; it is what is done with that information following the test. Let me walk you through the chronology of likely events before giving you some statistics that you should be aware of, and which at least for me, is a cause for consideration – if not alarm – if your PSA shows a higher number than what is considered normal.
Let’s take a 60-year-old male that is convinced by his primary care physician to take the test and the number comes back as an eight (normal for a man of that age is considered to be less than 4, although that in itself is an arbitrary number). The physician will then likely send you to a urologist for a biopsy. With a 60-year-old (or older), the biopsy will likely show some cancer. According to mortality data, 46% of all men in the USA between the ages of 50 and 59 have prostate cancer. The rate increases significantly as men age.
At this point, the urologist will likely recommend immediate surgery – after all, most urologists are surgeons. 70% of men who choose surgery do so within 48 hours of the diagnosis – a very significant statistic since one is highly unlikely to die of prostate cancer in the immediate future, and the potential for a life of impotence and incontinence post-surgery is considerable.
So you can see the unquestionable connection between a simple routine PSA test and the potential of a life without your prostate, but with significant and real life challenges to remember it by. To quote Richard Ablin Ph.D, the man who discovered the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) molecule, “I never dreamed that my discovery four decades ago would lead to such a profit-driven public health disaster.”
Dr. Thomas Stamey M.D. an early proponent of PSA screening (published in the Journal of Urology back in 2004) says: “The PSA era is over in the USA. Our study raises a very serious question of whether a man should even use the PSA test for prostate cancer screening anymore.”
If you have a PSA test and find the number is elevated, think before you take the next step. Retest, have your doctor conduct a PCA3 and a 4K score (there are other exams such as a 3D color Doppler Ultrasound) before jumping into the “sheep dip” of treatment protocols that the majority of men who are left impotent and incontinent, live to regret.
Many people have mistakenly been lead to believe that simply consuming the flaxseed (linseed) oil and Cottage cheese is enough to reduce the PSA and win the battle over cancer. Dr. Budwig used much more than this. She used a variety of potent selected herbs, photons from the sun and special ruby light therapy. Also she encouraged detoxification, hyperthermia, emotional healing and so on.
I personally visited Dr. Johanna Budwig in August 2000 and use all her methods at the Budwig Cancer clinic along with a photonic system that combines special light and plant extracts. We are obtaining excellent results with prostate cancer and all types of cancer
Loek van Mook says
Thank you very much for this clear response. Much appreciated
John says
In general, for prostate cancer, dairy is not recommended.
Wendy says
quark is a living food not the cottage cheese you normally buy in the US. it’s actually a fermented probiotic food. the woman who came up with this protocol, which uses much more than quark and flaxseed oil, had many degrees including PHD. she was a scientist and she had a 90% success rate! there are other ways or protocols which may work.
Eddie says
My PSA is 577. I am making Cannabis oil suppositories, Juicing, and intermittent fasting.
Tom says
A lot of people get a bit sicker on the Budwig protocol before getting better so I have read, apparently to do with tumours softening but expanding before being reabsorbed into the body!
Suzanne says
I do am intolerant to dairy. How do you use the eggs along with flaxseed oil?
Are tgere otger sulfur-rich foods which can be substituted for the cottage cheese?
Harry Wynne says
Stacy, try Dr Weber at his German prostate cancer clinic using the Oncotherm machine–he can help your husband. God bless you all.
bridgette says
Can you use kefir cheese instead of the cottage cheese?
drjockers says
Yes you can Bridgette! Be sure to get organic, grass-fed.
Lloyd Jenkins says
Yogurt – First of all if you read through all her books and research she never recommended or sanctioned the use of yogurt as a suitable substitute for quark in the Budwig Diet. She was adamant on using quark (cottage cheese) right up to publishing her last book in September 1999. That is not to say that she necessarily was opposed to yogurt, she just did not mention it as an option. It probably is not as effective as cottage cheese/quark because it lacks the protein density of cottage cheese and may not fully mix with flaxseed oil. The dairy product needs a certain protein density to facilitate complete water solubility of the flaxseed oil. After mixing yogurt even in double or triple proportion of the cottage cheese, on close observation with a magnifying glass you will find that there are still tiny oil specks floating on top, yet with quark that does not happen. Please keep in mind that a chemical reaction takes place when the sulphydryl groups in quark or cottage cheese bind with the unsaturated fatty acids in flaxseed oil. This reaction allows the flaxseed to become water soluble and enter into a cell to supply energy. I would not risk using yogurt when you are fighting with cancer and your life is at stake!
Pat says
Is flax or flaxseed oil safe for individuals with a medical history of estrogen positive breast cancer, who want to protect themselves from cancer recurrence?
Cheryl says
I’m really curious to know the answer to this too.
Valeria Mirian Neill de Macedo says
It is my doubt too. I am researching this very point because we know about the high estrogen level in the organic milk that we use to do the cottage…
Lloyd Jenkins says
HORMONES DO NOT CAUSE CANCER
There is a common myth that our hormones can cause cancer. Now if you stop and think about that statement, if it were true, everyone when they reached puberty would get cancer.
The correct understanding is that it is not our hormones that directly cause cancer but it is what our hormones are exposed to is the problem.
In the year 1900, only 5% of the population reportedly had cancer. In 2016, 46% of the world’s population are fighting cancer Women and men had the ‘same’ hormones as we do today, so if hormones caused cancer why the huge difference now in increased cancer rates?
The main cause of all cancer is toxins that literally play havoc with our hormones. Our environment exposes us up to dangerous xenoestrogens (xeno meaning “foreign) from the chemical estrogens all around us. Things like herbicides, pesticides, the amalgam (silver) fillings in our teeth, antiperspirants and certain types of plastics, to name a few. Read this article by Dr. Axe on how to reduce the dangers of toxins that seriously disrupt our hormones.
In North America alone there are more than 77,000 chemicals being produced, with more than 3,000 chemicals added to our food supply; and more than 10,000 chemicals in the form of solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives are used in food processing, packaging, wrapping, and storage. The EPA estimates there are more than 20,000 chemicals that our bodies cannot metabolize. Chemicals not metabolized are stored in the fat cells throughout our bodies where they continue to accumulate.
https://draxe.com/endocrine-disruptors-how-to-avoid-excess-estrogen
The amalgam fillings are classified as metalloestrogens and they cause us untold damage as they mimic and also stimulate estrogen production in a persons’ body. At the Budwig Cancer Center we work with a biological dentist just 5 minutes away from our clinic who replaces these harmful fillings with natural compounds. We find that people who come to us with breast, ovarian and prostate cancer are particularly at greater risk from xenoestrogens.
HORMONES DO NOT CAUSE CANCER
When a person gets a breast cancer diagnosis, the oncologist will probably tell them that their condition is hormonal driven. There is a variety of different definitions they will use, such as:
• Endocrine receptor-positive (estrogen or progesterone receptors)
• HER2-positive
• Triple positive: positive for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and HER2
• Triple negative: not positive for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and HER2
According to the medical approach, about 80% of all breast cancers are “ER-positive.” That means the cancer cells grow in response to the hormone estrogen. About 65% of these are also “PR-positive.” They grow in response to another hormone, progesterone. On the other hand, if your breast cancer has a significant number of receptors for either estrogen or progesterone, it would be considered hormone-receptor positive.
THE REAL CAUSE OF CANCER
There are many contributing factors that cause cancer but the main cause is toxins. It is true that microbes, parasites and other pathogens contribute to cancer, however these pathogens have existed since the beginning of time and yet just 100 years ago 5% of the world population had cancer compared to 46% today. What has changed? We have more toxins now than ever before, toxins in the air, water and in our food. Also we must not forget the emotional toxins and stress that has increased dramatically with the life style of our “modern world”. At the Budwig Cancer Center we use several therapies to detoxify our patients, such as hyperthermia, infrared saunas, ionic foot baths, Epsom salt baths, colonic irrigation, herbal formulas and emotional healing therapies. The famous flaxseed oil and cottage cheese that Dr. Budwig used have two anticancer components: lignans and an omega-3 fat called “alphalinolenic acid” (ALA). Several studies have been done to determine how the phytoestrogens in flaxseeds may help cancer. One theory compares the estrogen-receptor blocking ability of flaxseeds with estrogen-receptor modulation drugs. The weak plant-based estrogens block the estrogen receptors on cells within breast tissue, starving them of full-strength female estrogen, possibly stopping tumor growth and preventing cell damage.
Dave Epley says
Stacey, cancer is a deficiency condition; the deficiency is pancreatic enzymes. How can you cut, poison or burn a deficiency? Dr. William Donald Kelley healed his own pancreatic cancer and lived over 40 years treating cancers of all kinds with a program that emphasized pancreatic enzymes. Many of his patients had been given up by conventional doctors, as he was. References: Kelley, Victory Over Cancer (rev. 2015); Gonzales, N., One Man Alone, and other books; and (for a quick, self care manual) Mauris Emeka, Cancer’s Best Medicine. Barbara says
This is what I’ve read for years: Instead of cottage cheese, you could use 1]drained yogurt, 2] drained kefir or 3] German quark. You can also use these products made from goat milk if regular milk is an issue with you. For me, the cultured/fermented dairy never caused me any issues even back when i was ‘dairy’ intolerant.
The original ‘quark’ is more of a buttermilk…and is made with buttermilk cultures. It too is drained to make it thick. It contains just a tiny tad more protein per the 6-8 T required for the protocol. I use a tad more of the 0% plain Greek yogurt to make up for it. Greek yogurt is strained and is very thick like the cottage cheese. If I need it to be thinned down a bit I use a spoon or two of kefir. I make my own
I don’t have access to quark or the good organic cottage cheese. I do have access to organic Greek yogurt. The Budwig protocol requires a certain amount of protein to be mixed with the flax oil (I use Barlean’s and have for nearly 30 years) and I have read that as long as you use at least the required amount of protein to mix the FOCC you are good to go. Quark has a little over 13 grams of protein in 100 grams, about 3.5 ounces. Thick Greek Yogurt has slightly less than that, so I use an extra tablespoon or two of it to make up the difference. I use a hand mixer to blend it up thoroughly.
I don’t have cancer (tho none of us really knows what is going on in our bodies) but I love this stuff….I’ve been making and consuming it for nearly 20 years. I just recently wanted to see what differences I might notice if I did the protocol twice a day like it calls for. I was really surprised even tho I’ve been a health foodie for over 30 years!
I also take this to my mom (who is non-ambulatory in a memory care facility). She LOVES it as well, and it is amazing how much better she looks after she eats it. I can almost see her calming down, better coloring and she feels so much better as well. Too bad they don’t feed everyone in the nursing home the Budwig protocol every day, at least twice a day instead of the diet they feed them. Wow…wouldn’t that be awesome.
Since I crave it, I do it at least once a day, usually for dinner in the evening, and a lot of days I have it for both breakfast and dinner. I eat a super healthy meal at lunch as well.
Good stuff!!! Good article too…Thanks Dr. Jockers!
Robyne Chamberlain says
The only organic cottage cheese I can get is low fat…I just realised the protocol calls for full fat. Have I been wasting my time using the low fat? The cottage cheese is a very high quality and very high protein
Barbara says
Robyne, I’ve never read anything anywhere in 30 years where Johanna Budwig herself called for full fat quark. Back in the day, milk was skimmed of a lot of the fat anyway, so it was naturally low fat. I don’t even think fat free was on the horizon yet. It’s actually the sulphorated protein that mixes with the flax oil to form the potent anti-cancer healing. The fat that you want to be present is the flax oil. Everything I’ve ever read She was not a fan of animal fat when fighting cancer. And as i stated above, she used quark, a product of her country, which was similar to thick strained Greek yogurt, not cottage cheese (which is cooked) and was made from milk inoculated with mesophile bacteria – usually that of buttermilk…..and not incubated. The closest thing in protein content is thick strained Greek yogurt. Since I can’t get quark, nor the cottage cheese, I get the next best thing. Organic. Plain. Greek strained yogurt. And I do the low fat. My opinion only, based on what i’ve read.
John says
I have read from a couple of sources that she was opposed to low fat cottage cheese/quark, because it is precisely those ingredients that make it work. Her job was head of the bureau of Fats for German government.
Liz says
You’re supposed to use 2% because full fat won’t allow all of the flaxseed oil to emulsify. See the doctor’s comment further up on this feed.
Malcolm Galatz says
Can yogurt be used instead of Cottage Cheese ?
John says
Yes, just use a bit more.
Larry Bou says
Budwig worked for me. I had stage 3 colorectal cancer with the tumor I could no longer “go” when I started Ludwig as a last resort. If it didn’t start reducing the tumor within two weeks it was surgery and chemo for me. Miraculously it did. It soothed the terrible pain, slowly shrank the tumor so I could go again, and the bleeding started to lessen. It took maybe two years before all traces were gone. And all the while I had a normal lifestyle of owning a business, having a family of four, playing tennis, racquetball, doing yoga etc.
Of course I also did everything else I could think of to help including detoxes, superfoods, juicing, saunas etc. But it was clearly the Budwig protocol that reversed the cancer with everything else playing a supporting role. I can’t recommend it highly enough. By the way I’ve been cancer free for six years and counting.

BUT HIS ONCOLOGIST RECOMMENDED IMMUNOTHERAPY (OPTIVA) TO KILL CANCER CELLS AND MY HUSBAND DID IT EVEN THO I DON’T APPROVE OF THIS KIND OF TREATMENT. I WANTED TO GIVE HIM THE BUDWIG DIET PROTOCOL BUT BECAUSE HE HAS A CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE HE CAN ONLY TAKE 85 MGS OF PROTEIN A DAY. CAN HE DO THE BUDWIG DIET PROTOCOL?
Renee Woskie says
How many days do you have to do this budwig diet? Forever or 7 days a month? I have been doing this for a week now. But I have been blending the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with a back of a spoon until the oil is incorporated. I have people who are sleeping when I get up and can’t make noise with a noisy machine.
Also watching these Food Revolution with Ocean Robbins, they say to stay away from dairy products, so what can you substitute cottage cheese for? Thanks Renee
Kevin says
Renee i don’t think you are getting the full chemical reaction when cc is combined with fo without using an immersion mixer. I’d suggest some kind of workaround. Maybe go in the garage?

I was using Organic Milled Flax seed wasn’t using oil. What brand of oil and cottage cheese should we be using?
Kevin says
Nancy’s is the preferred cottage cheese. It does not contain carageenan, which has some concerns (you can research more about it). Barlean’s is the oil used by most people from what i can tell.
Sandee says
Can this mixture be made with organic flaxseed oil from a bottle?
Budwig says
Budwig diet tells you that lignans are important especially with certain cancers. See cancertutor.com This article should be updated!

Yeah, why no supplements? I take a lot of supplements ranging from crystal iodine, mushroom spores, pau d’ arco to oratate minerals sometimes. A lot of cancer fighting supplements!

For many of you enquiring…. yes, you can take your supplements (I do) – just NOT AT THE SAME TIME as you take your Budwig formula. You should plan to take your supplements at least 1 1/2 hrs. before or after you take your Budwig formula. The reason being is that many supplements or Rx meds can interfere/weaken the chemical reaction/absorption taking place between the cottage cheese & flax oil and inhibit the ability of the formula to resupply energy to your cells. Hope that answers a few questions.

how many servings per day did you take?

My Nephew, age 52, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostrate Cancer in Jan 2016. He had a tumor the size of a baseball in his buttocks area, and the cancer had metastasized into his hips and shoulders. His PSA was at 242 which is very high for cancer. This would be a death sentence for most people. His doctor wanted to start radiation immediately. He told his doctor he didn’t want to die being sick from radiation and was going to look into an alternative method.
After intense research, he decided to follow the protocol in Bill Henderson’s book: Cancer Free – Your Guide to Gentle, Non – Toxic Healing. He changed his diet from mostly fast foods, with very little fruits or vegetables to a plant based diet with no meat and NO sugar (cancer feeds on sugar), no prepackaged foods. He eats nuts and seeds for his protein. He takes 500 Mg of B17 (also known as Laetrile or Amydalin) 3 x per day. The B17 kills the cancer cells, but not the healthy cells, He also takes Megazyme Forte (By Biophix) 2 x per day on an empty stomach to help get rid of the dead cancer cells along other various healthy vitamins and nutrients to rebuild his immune system. He juices each morning and each evening with organic vegetables, and eats a large salad every day. Another step of his protocol is: he clears all of the meat off of the bones of non hormone, non antibiotic chicken, puts the meat away for the healthy members of his family. He then simmers the bones slowly for at least 24 hrs. This releases all of the nutrients, which includes the collagen from the bones. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and is the substance that holds the whole body together. This method of extracting this valuable protein has been scientifically proven to have very valuable healing attributes. He uses this to make vegetable soups to rebuild his system. He also does the Budwig Protocol 2 x per day.
By the end of April his PSA reading went from 242 down to 22!!! By mid June, his tumor that had been the size of a baseball, was now the size of a small grape. He had a urine test in June in which 50 is high for cancer. His test came back at # 2 !!! He is due to go in for another reading soon and is confident that he will be found Cancer Free!!!!

Hello,
I have been using the Budwig Diet Protocol for two years now (pancreatic cancer with metastasis on the liver).
The mixture tastes really good, but after taking it for two years, I’m starting to have trouble eating it.
I was wondering whether it would be an issue if I diluted the cottage cheese mixture with a fresh vegetable and fruit juice? For instance – 30g of oil, 75g of cottage cheese and 250g of juice, all mixed with a powerful blender. This way the mixture is easier to consume – I drink it.
I also have a question regarding cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is really easy to make from milk (fresh milk). You just add a little citric acid to the milk as it simmers and the cottage cheese is done. Would this kind of cottage cheese be suitable for the Budwig protocol? It’s full-fat cottage cheese, not made from whey.
Kevin says
one reason why Nancys is preferable is that it does not contain carrageenan like some other cottage cheeses, plus it is organic

Can you do this protocol in conjunction with cannabis oil? My friend has Stage 3 liver cancer & has started to take cannabis oil which takes a long time to build up to the correct amount & build tolerance levels up. Actually this is what the diet is per the article above:Nancy’s brand of organic low fat cottage cheese contains probiotics and enzymes which even those with dairy sensitivities may tolerate.
Kevin M. says
Snow White: Agreed, also after combining FO with CC, the CC no longer has dairy qualities.
Neil Stooke says
Yes that is ideal and after opening it must stay in the refrigerator with the lid on tight. This is because the oil can go rancid and taste terrible. BEST OF LUCK!!
Ahmed says
But I thought it must be low-fat cottage cheese… as in the video of the nice lady fixing the recipe in her kitchen…
And Dr. Jockers, what should be the ratio of eggs to oil be?
Donna says
That’s fantastic!
Kevin says
I can handle nancy’s cottage cheese no prob, but for others here your tip is great!
Kevin says
Folks: For those of you with dairy sensitivities who are wondering how you can do the Budwig Protocol which involves cottage cheese, please note that cottage cheese loses its dairy qualities after it is combined with flaxseed oil. When combined (for example in an immersion mixer), a chemical reaction takes place, leaving the omega-3’s in the flaxseed oil water-soluble (previously they were unable to penetrate the cell membrane b/c they were an oil) and now able to penetrate the cell membrane PLUS the cottage cheese loses its dairy qualities. According to Bill Henderson’s book How to Cure Almost Any Cancer At Home on $5.15 a Day, “Dozens of people I know who are lactose-intolerant eat the Budwig protocol every day without any problems whatsoever.”
Barleans is the recommended flaxseed oil per Bill Henderson, and Nancy’s seems to be a brand of cottage cheese preferred by many. I like Nancy’s b/c it is organic and also it does not contain carageenan, According to the Cornucopia Institute, “Research links carrageenan to gastrointestinal inflammation, including higher rates of colon cancer, in laboratory animals.” Chriskresser.com says “carrageenan has produced intestinal damage in some animal studies.”
For cancer, Bill Henderson says to combine 2/3 cup of cottage cheese (12 tbsp) with 1/3 cup of flaxseed oil (6 tbsp). Bill says that once the cancer is gone it is wise to use a maintenance dose of half the regular dose for the rest of one’s life.
Once the CC and FO have been blended together, one can sprinkle things onto the mixture and stirred with a spoon – but not blended using the immersion mixer – in order to improve the taste. I personally add 3 tbsp shredded coconut, cinnamon, 1 tbsp vanilla, two handfuls blueberries, 14 macadamia nuts, 10 pecans, plus 2 tbsp flaxseeds freshly ground w/ a coffee bean grinder.

I have a leaky gut. How much kefir for 2 T of flax?
Kevin M says
Heidi, the ratio of flaxseed oil to cottage cheese/quark is always 1:2, per the late Bill Henderson’s books. Bill was perhaps the biggest proponent of the Budwig Protocol in terms of making it popular. And I believe he took that directly from Dr. Johanna Budwig’s research. For cancer, Bill recommends 6 tbsp FO:12 tbsp cottage chees until it has gone away, then half that for a maintenance dose.
(FYI, I had leaky gut syndrome, which produced several auto-immune conditions. I then went on the GAPS Diet, whose creator says that virtually all auto-immune issues emanate from leaky gut. This diet is similar to Paleo and, among other things, stresses 1) fermented foods a few times a day (kefir, kraut, tempeh, natto, kim-chi, etc.) and 2) bone broth, as ways to heal and re-seal the gut. This diet eliminated all the auto-immune issues I had, which I assume meant that my gut was no longer leaky and had been sealed. Had I not discovered this diet, I would have been on all sorts of medications, which would have likely created side effects not to mention toxic effects on my body.)

I read this article, and then even looked further at the other websites you referenced at the end. If you look at “The True Budwig Protocol” page mentioned, it states that you need HIGH-fat, not low-fat. Low-fat was not around in Dr. Budwig’s time. She specifically specified quark cheese due to its higher fat content (which later changed to cottage cheese more easily found in the US). So all these different websites out there stating low-fat cottage cheese in the recipe are incorrect! It appears that you referenced a different website (thankfully, as it gives a clearer understanding of just how it works, so I do thank you), yet did not read or research her diet fully.
Barbara says
It sounds like we need someone who speaks German, to read and correctly interpret the ORIGINAL protocol from the original language. There are so many different versions out there…and too many sites professing to be THE TRUE BUDWIG protocol.
Ell says
Hi, im german 🙂 and the real receipt is with low fat quark or low fat cottage cheese
Barbara says
Oh Ell….thank you!!!! I have been looking around for a digital version of the original manuscript so I could translate it myself!! I was pretty sure it was the low fat as there was not any ‘fat free’ or ‘0%’ versions back when she first began her research. She recommended against both animal fat and dairy. It was the flax oil with the dairy that made the protocol….didn’t have anything to do with the animal fat. I use Greek yogurt, which is simply strained yogurt (which concentrates the protein to the level she recommends). Once the flax oil is incorporated fully into the quark, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, or strained kefir (the source of the sulphurated protein) it then is not functioning as a dairy product but an oxygenizing food. And it was the ONLY dairy she recommended using. And ONLY with the flax oil. She was a genius!
Thank you so much for replying!
Lloyd Jenkins says
You can consume the Flaxseed oil and Cottage cheese anytime of the day and with other food or on its own.
John says
I am using it to prevent cancer and to prevent pain from my biggest exercise-3 hrs. of baseball . I can feel that it heals my body and reduces pain.
Barbara says
STRAINED yogurt (Greek)…..extremely dense….is as dense as cottage cheese and quark…..and is TOTALLY different than regular yogurt. STRAINED and DENSE are the key words here. Strained yogurt and quark are made the exact same way….both are strained after culturing and are very dense. Cottage cheese is made totally without culturing but is also dense. Regular yogurt is thin…..MUCH thinner than what is needed for the flax oil blending. German ‘quark’ is what she recommended. Yogurt is what we have in this country and is made just like the German quark, but with different bacteria in the culture, and both are strained after culturing, resulting in a very dense dairy protein. And the bacteria used does not make a difference as the cottage cheese is not generally cultured thus lacking bacteria.

Hi, please consider 20 000 (20 thousand) to 50 000 (preferable) i.u’s (international units) Vitamin A, 30 mg Zinc (elemetal quantity)and 20 mg Vitamin B6 – per day. Forget the vitamin A scare! This level will provide significant improvement if not a complete cure.
Cynthia Johnson says
Hi Philip,
But according to Dr Budwig, she does not recommend supplementation. What do you think? Will the Vit A, Zinc and Vit B6 help to liquify the fluid in his lungs so it can be drained and help in his shortness of breath? Please let me know, urgent…
Dr. Lloyd Jenkins says
Some high doses of Vitamin D with Vitamin K to correct the problem you have would only be temporary and so would not be a problem with the Budwig protocol
Dr. Lloyd Jenkins says
Whenever you take high doses of Vitamin D you need to take Vitamin K2 as well for it to work properly

Sarah H Walter says
The bleeding is not from the Cottage Cheese & Flaxseed mixture. If ur adding Flaxseeds (the seeds) then that may cause bleeding. Is it Rectal or Colon C. that u have?
For me, I consume the mixture twice a day & do not exceed 4 tbs although 6-8 is recommended cuz I also get heart palpitations from Low Blood Pressure which this mixture could cause.
& being of little mass, I think 4 TBS may suffice for a small person like me. (40kg & under)
Go slow on leafy greens, oats, too much broccoli. Basically go slow on Fibre. Good for most, but not for those with a tumor in the Colon or Rectum.
Hope this helps.

However, his symptoms (numbness of the leg) seems to be much worse. I just need some opinions, do you guys think he should continue or should we stop it? Has anybody else had this experience? I read somewhere on internet that it could make you worse before better? Is this true?
Dr Lloyd Jenkins says
The Budwig program will not make the cancer grow faster however we need to bear in mind that sometimes a tumor will grow bigger before it gets smaller. Also Ellie many mistakenly believe that all Dr. Budwig did was feed her patients Flaxseed oil and Cottage cheese. When I visited her in August 2000 she shared with me the many other remedies and therapies she used. We now use them a the Budwig Center and would love to share more information with you on how to help your father.

Flaxseeds cause me to throw up within five minutes of consuming. I can still use flaxseed oil the last time I tried. I don’t know why this happens but it does and then I am nauseous the rest of the day. So, is I can only do the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil, will I still benefit?
Dr Lloyd Jenkins says
Hello Wendy yes the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese are both adequate so you are fine. However we have found that the best way to consume the flaxseeds is to soak them at least 4 hours before using them as they contain moderate levels of phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. Until the seed is exposed to moisture this phytic acid is biologically necessary to prevent them from germinating in an environment that is not conducive to good growing conditions. You may find that you digest them much better after being soaked
Wendy says
Thank you. So after they soak, do you rinse them or just drain them.
Budwig Center says
The seeds will expand and use up all the liquid. I use a ratio of 1 part seeds to 3 parts water. However I actually use Kombucha, the green tea/Honey type and then the next day and blend with an upright stick blender. No need to rinse. You can then add them to the Quark and blend it all together and afterwards add some lemon juice, honey, etc
Elaine Edwards says
Wondering….If you don’t rinse, doesn’t the phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors still get in our body?
I soak nuts to do the same, but also rinse them good before dehydrating them slowly in the oven on lowest temperature.

Hello Esther, normally with this condition you need to get your local doctor to examine your gallbladder as there could be some blockage in the duct between the liver and gallbladder and this is not something you can treat at home. Once we know what is the real cause we can make additional recommendations on how to proceed with the Budwig approach

What should i eat daily to heal cancer ? Please give me a diet list for morning, mid day and dinner ……and tell me more thing to cure any cancer 100%
Dr Lloyd Jenkins says
I visited Dr Johanna Budwig in August 2000 and questioned her at length on her entire protocol. In addition to having her books and recipes I also have notes of others who worked closely with her. The concept of “sugar feeds cancer” is true but applies to “refined” sugars, and not natural sugar as it occurs in fruit, veg and grains. There are different alternative practitioners treating cancer with a variety of approaches, however as this is the “Budwig” approach, I can share her approach which allowed grains. We do find however that many with cancer have a wheat intolerance so the other grains are better and Spelt is a better wheat choice. She really favored buckwheat in many of her recipes.
BUDWIG CENTER says
The medical community fixates on the tumor and they try to cut it out or burn it out, but the tumor is the symptom that your body is out of harmony. Cutting out the tumor is not necessary wrong but its somewhat like cutting the head off a dandelion weed. The roots are still underground and it will grow back again and again until you remove the complete plant with the root. The Budwig approach “removes the root of the problem”
However a person should rely on a multi-pronged approach. An approach which addresses all four of the contributing factors to cancer. Many make the mistake also of thinking that Dr. Budwig had her wonderful success simply feeding her patients FSOCCheese. When I visited Dr. Budwig I found out that she was using many remedies and therapies. You need to endorse the full Budwig protocol to reverse the cancer

Ed P. says
Brit,
I am also dairy intolerant, I use original regular almond milk, it tastes just like milk and is non-dairy. Let me know how it works for you.
Linda says
I too am dairy intolerant. Is there anything to replace the FSOCC that will also provide oxygen to my body to fight cancer?
BUDWIG CENTER says
Alternatives to Dairy If You are Intolerant
Dr. Budwig believed in oxygen but only natural oxygen in her treatment and the FSOCCheese mixture provides that oxygen. For people not able to consume the dairy due to an intolerance or allergy, the Budwig Center recommends the super food that Himalayan guides, called Sherpas who have been bringing explorers to the top of Mount Everest for centuries used to improve energy, increase stamina and support physical performance. As part of their job, these guides must carry extraordinarily heavy packs of food and equipment. Not only that, but they have to do it for many miles at high altitudes where there is less oxygen in the air. In fact, the oxygen concentration at 12,000 feet is 40% lower than at sea level. That’s why so many mountain climbers often get light headed, dizzy, or fatigued. Sherpas were on the first expedition to reach the top of Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary. One Sherpa has scaled the summit an unprecedented ten times and all without oxygen. Another Sherpa raced up the side of Mount Everest in less than 17 hours, when it takes most hikers four days to do it. They consume cordyceps which grows at 16,000 feet high in the mountains of Tibet.
One study found that older adults who took cordyceps significantly improved their oxygen absorption. Another study found that athletes who took cordyceps daily for six weeks had double the rate of oxygen intake as those in the placebo group. And yet another study found that cordyceps increased cellular oxygen absorption by an enormous 40%!
Dr. Budwig favored Flaxseeds and since you are intolerant to dairy you do not want to miss out on the great benefits of the seeds. A seed is actually the embryonic plant itself and therefore it is no exaggeration to say that a seed is life and a true ‘super food’.
CHIA SEEDS are one of the tiniest nutritional powerhouses on earth. According to legend, ancient Aztec warriors ate a spoonful of chia seeds during times of battle. The chia seeds kept the warriors satiated over a period of 24 hours and gave them the energy to carry on without having to stop and eat. Chia offers 2½ times more protein than kidney beans, 3 times the antioxidant strength of blueberries, 3 times more iron than spinach, 6 times more calcium than milk, 7 times more vitamin C than oranges, 8 times more omega-3 than salmon, 10 times more fiber than rice and 15 times more magnesium than broccoli.
However it is always recommended to consume soaked seeds. Seeds all contain moderate levels of phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. Until the seed or nut is exposed to moisture this phytic acid is biologically necessary to prevent them from germinating in an environment that is not conducive to good growing conditions. Our bodies will absorb more nutrition from the seeds and nuts after being ‘awakened’ by soaking them beforehand.
Instructions: Put 2 tablespoons of Chia Seeds and Flaxseeds into a glass of triple the amount of salt water, or Kombucha or lemon juice and let soak overnight. The next day add 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds and 2 teaspoons of raw honey (optional fresh or frozen berries could also be added). Blend with an upright stick type blender until you make sure all the husks of the seeds have been broken open
WHEY: Others who were intolerant to the Cottage cheese or Quark were however able to handle Whey as the casein that usually causes the intolerance is removed. Try mixing 6 level tablespoons of Whey powder with soaked ground flaxseeds and Chia seeds as an alternative.

The next day add 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds and 2 teaspoons of raw honey (optional fresh or frozen berries could also be added). Blend with an upright stick type blender until you make sure all the husks of the seeds have been broken open… my question is this will this seed blending provide same benefit without the cc – quark etc? and dont the flax seeds have to be ground?
i have used chia for years and always soak them before use to release mucilage – this can happen quickly – does overnight soaking serve a purpose? and last question is about mentioning cordyseps.. is this something we should add and if so in what form is recommended / also it seems mentioned in conjunction with chia seed..
THANKS!
BUDWIG CENTER says
Yes using the flaxseeds and optional Chia seeds will replace the flaxseed oil if the seeds are presoaked at least 4 hours. You blend the presoaked seeds with the upright blender, then add them to the Quark and blend the two together alone with nothing else. Then you can add fruits, honey, etc and blend once more. The mucilage that seeds produce is very good and should be eaten as this is all part of the nutrition they provide, so keep everything. Ground up flaxseeds that are not presoaked will not provide as much health benefits as presoaked ones and they have a enzyme inhibitor that will not be eliminated, thus making them harder to digest and less health benefits. We have patients complaining about the un soaked seeds from time to time. The cordyseps in powder or simply open 2 x capsules of 500 mg each for a total of 1000 mg and add them after the Flaxseeds and Quark have been blended will enhance the oxygen intake. This is optional but a great way to increase the total amount of oxygen you are flooding your body with.

I find the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese boring to eat, but can we add anything else to the mixture?
Amber says
Good morning! I do not have cancer (but have a family history of cancer) and am just getting started with the protocol for the overall health benefits and hopefully cancer prevention. I am only consuming one mixture a day. Is it more beneficial to consume in the morning? Would it be just as beneficial to consume in the evening? I really enjoy it in the evening as a light meal but I want to be sure I’m getting the optimal benefits of the mixture. Thank you!

In September 2007, I was found to have grade II mixed glioma brain cancer. I had two surgeries to remove it followed by radiation. My neuro oncologist told me 50% of this strain come back within three years. Eleven years later, it has not come back.
I started on Budwig in January 2008 at the same time I started radiation. I followed it very specifically for four years. While I cannot prove its effects, I can tell you I have no ill effects from the cancer and there are no signs of recurrence. That is extremely rare when it comes to brain cancer.
I also have a friend who had grade II mixed glioma brain cancer at the same time I did. She did not change her diet and her cancer returned four years ago. While I acknowledge every situation is unique, I can’t help but wonder what might have been for my friend if she’d tried the protocol. I talked with her about it but she chose to take her diet in a different direction.
I credit my recovery and continued health to the Budwig protocol. This week my mom was diagnosed with late stage angiosarcoma that has spread to her lungs. I am starting her on the protocol today.
If anyone would like to contact me about my experience, I’m happy to provide details.

hi dear
HOw dou count the proportions between cottage cheese and oil ?
100gr/50gr ?
Vera Algiere says
Remember, 1 tablespoon of flax oil plus 2 tablespoons of organic low fat cottage cheese or quark is recommended for every 100 pounds of an individual. The recipe can be adjusted according to dosage needs as well as for its intended purpose to treat the severity of cancer symptoms.
Place 1 tablespoon of cold pressed flaxseed oil into a glass container.
Mix in 2 tablespoons of organic, low fat (2% or less) cottage cheese OR quark.
Never by hand, and preferably using an immersion blender, blend the two foods for 1 minute. This will result in a whipped cream like consistency.
Grind 2 tablespoons of either golden or brown flaxseeds in a coffee grinder for 1 minute until an airy, fluffy appearance results. Place ground flaxseed in a separate glass bowl. Add the cheese and oil mixture to the ground flax seed and stir with a spoon to combine.
Additional add-ins including organic fruits, nuts, and spices can be added on top for a tasty meal.

Hi David,
I have prostate cancer, my PSA is 11.l, I will have a discussion next week with my doctor to see what he recommends. I have started the FO/CC with grinded flax seed taking 6 TS of CC with 3 TS of FO, and 2 TS of fresh ground flax seed. Don’t know how long it will be before I see any results (lower PSA) but hope not over a couple of months. I know this is most likely a lifetime ongoing process. Any suggestions?

Hello, I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Prostata cancer that had already spread to the bone and as such was not treatable, acc. to the specialist. Faced with the diagnosis that no treatment was available to treat/heal I decided against a l l further treatment. The specialist still wanted to take a biopsy and further down the track operate, he even rang repeatedly despite my clear decision. Annoyed with the conventional thinking and the associated very hungry money machine I decided within days to give all alternative treatments a go to slow it at least down. The PSA went from 11 up and down then to 22. One year later I found a new specialist that listened and respected the situation, where I did not want surgery, radiation and chemo. He suggested to have a ZOLADEX implant every three month. I worked very, very well. I am painfree, the PSA dropped to 0.43 over 9 month, the bladder volume went up to 500 ml from about 150 ml. No panic runs to the toilet anymore. So, the Zoladex continues as does a range of alternative methods and supplements to support the overall recovery.

With my husband we found that if you follow the diet for 3 months you can have a piece of broiled fish or chicken “organic” once or twice a month. Or boiled chicken drained. Vegetables lightly steamed can be eaten as well after 3 months. No animal fats or margarine or milk etc. zero sugar. Honey can be added to 1 cup of coffee a day. Only a teaspoon though. But continue the diet for 1 year so that every cell in the body can be renewed. It takes 1 year. His cancer type came back in a year when he did the diet for only 3 months. It has to be done for a full year cycle

Absolutely not…. Follow Budwig Diet instructions exactly…. Vera Algiere says
The original Budwig Diet recipe provides many valuable nutrients; however, in my opinion you can reap even more benefits from including additional superfood ingredients. My “Beyond Budwig Recipe” includes the following ingredients: (4)
6 ounces of cultured dairy, such as organic cottage cheese, goat’s milk kefir, or amasai. I recommend checking your local farmers’ market and trying to find raw dairy products, if possible.
4 tablespoons of sprouted and ground chia or flax seeds. You can use whole seeds that you grind yourself, pre-ground seed meal, or seed powder. (DO NOT include chia or flax seed if you have colorectal cancer or a colostomy.)
1 tablespoon flaxseed oil
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl or blender and consume one time or more daily. Consuming this meal one time daily can help rebuild your cell membranes and is also an incredible colon cleanse. It is loaded with probiotics and fermentable fiber that can transform the health of your small intestine and colon. However, note that if you have colon or colorectal cancer or if you’ve had a colostomy, DO NOT include the chia and flaxseeds. (5)
*Note — If you simply cannot consume this healthy form of dairy because of a food sensitivity, I suggest replacing the kefir with unsweetened coconut yogurt or 3oz full-fat canned coconut milk.
Linda says
I think I am allergic to flax seed – can I use high quality fish oil? Thanks
Lillian Raff says
Dr budwig was clear that within a short time ground flax seed goes rancid and is therefore toxic. So you need to grind the flaxseed at the time you need to use it, and not use pre-ground seeds.
Glen Burton says
If it’s not already obvious from reading the article , quark
Is a good substitute if that’s available to you
Kevin says
Bud is absolutely wrong…. Yogurt and ricotta would work fine in place of cottage cheese for the protocol as they contain comparative amounts sulfur proteins.
Here are the amounts of total sulfur proteins (methionine and cystine) per 100 grams of product as referenced from nutritiondata.com:
Cottage cheese – 311mg
Yogurt – 221mg
Ricotta – 384mg
Based on this data, ricotta is actually a superior carrier for the oil as it has more sulfur proteins gram for gram than cottage cheese. If you plan on using yogurt, use 50% extra to compensate for the lower amount of sulfur proteins.
Best of luck!
Susan says

Hello, Faced with Cancer there is a tremendous lot of very helpful information available and disinformation as well. One needs to look for quality information and do a lot of reading to understand. One needs to slow down, stop, reverse, improve adverse developments and start to go back on the healing track, it will take time. Having been there myself I can report that it takes a lot of different inputs, traditional and modern medicine, however nothing radical that pulls one further down.
In years to come we will hopefully see an entirely new approach, that incorporates everything that has been around for a long time as well.
Troy Patterson says

I haven’t tried the Budwig Diet yet, mainly because my husband (the one with Prostrate Cancer) can’t “live” without meat! However, I have read where Concentrated Natural Flax Hulls Lignans are great sprinkled on food, in liquids, etc. The hulls have more of the “good stuff” than the seeds I’ve been told. Expect to use 30gm per day which would be approximately 2 5gm scoops per each of 3 meals a day.
I would love to read some replies to this information. Is it good or bad??

I tried making the cottage cheese/flaxseed oil mixture for the first time today and it was so thick that my immersion blender wouldn’t blend it well. I ended up adding filtered water. Any suggestions? Also, in the book Cancer-Free by Bill Henderson, he says to take 6 tbsp of the oil with 2/3 cup cottage cheese. This article says to take 1 tbsp oil and 2 tbsp cottage cheese per 100 lbs. I weigh 119 lbs. so should I just stick to the 1 tbsp oil/2 tbsp cottage cheese?
One more question. I didn’t remember that it was supposed to be only 1-2% fat cottage cheese. I bought organic grass fed cottage cheese and it is 4% fat. I had to drive for 1 hr. to get the organic cottage cheese so don’t want to waste it. Will this work? Does the higher fat content make it not work as well?

My wife had Ovarian Cancer … diagnosed in 2012.
We decided to go with Chemo and Alternative mainly because she was Stage 4 to start …CA 125 @ approx. 700 and we did not have enough time to put together a properly researched Stand alone Protocol.
We worked on Detoxing first and then went to the items we had researched as soon as possible.
I will skip[ the in between and get to the Budwick Protocol. We did it full bore according to all the correct recommended procedures and doses.
We went to the High end after we got to a Reasonable start point.
To save a lot of typing I am going to tell you the Truth and my opinion of this Protocol.
It did nothing for us at all. She finally had to give up with the high doses of Cottage cheese and no results.
We monitored her CA 125 all the way and because it came down to under 100 with just the Chemo alone, and then we started the Budwick Protcol . It went to just under 200 when we finally quit.
Maybe it will work for other Cancers but I would not use it for Breast or Ovarian.
We went to Apricot seeds 25 per day and Proteoletic Enzymes next and that did slowly start to bring the count back down.
