New findings suggest that early exposure to antibiotics may lead to an increased risk of childhood obesity. A recent article published in Gut (published by the BMJ Group) found that the administration of antibiotics and acid suppressants within the first two years of life was associated with obesity. The association is strong, and each round of medicine prescribed increased the risk of obesity.
According to Dr. Cade Nylund, one of the authors of the study, the increased risk of obesity may likely be a result of alterations to the microbiome. That is to say that the changes made to the bacteria in the gut can have significant impact on a child’s obesity risk. And the gut’s impact on our bodies goes far beyond weight gain and obesity. As I’ve talked about before, an unhealthy gut can lead to poor nutrient absorption, autoimmune disease, depression, and even cancer.
Following well over 300,000 children, the study was the largest of its kind. Infants who were prescribed antibiotics had a 26% higher risk of obesity by age 3, and while antibiotics are considered the standard for treating infection, the damage to our bodies can be significant.
A 2016 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that at least 30% of antibiotic prescriptions in the United States are unnecessary, and while antibiotics have been shown to be effective against some infections, overuse can quickly lead to lead to resistant bacteria. Bacterium that survives a course of antibiotics passes on its resistant properties as it replicates, resulting in resistant, more dangerous infections.
Nevertheless, antibiotics are the most commonly prescribed medicine for infants. With immature immune systems that are still developing, these children are susceptible to irrevocable damage. And nearly 44% of antibiotic prescriptions are used to treat patients with respiratory issues like sinus or ear infections, allergies, or even the common cold. About half of these prescriptions are unnecessary. Antibiotics do nothing to combat viral infections, which include most coughs, colds, and upper respiratory illnesses.
Healthy gut bacteria have such an impact on the immune system that they can actually help inhibit the development of cancer or even be used in treatment. And yet, 47 million excess prescriptions are leaving Americans – and especially children – with an altered gut microbiota that presents a plethora of health concerns.
A study of patients in the United Kingdom found that those who had taken antibiotics were around 10% more likely to develop colorectal cancer. Another study showed that any amount of antibiotic use may increase the risk of breast cancer in women. The International Journal of Cancer published a study that demonstrated a link between antibiotic use and breast, lung, prostate, and colon cancer.
While the cancer industry is reticent about the connection between antibiotics and cancer, the evidence exists to justify caution when it comes to antibiotic use. We need to be careful about the medicines we take and the long-term effects they can have on our bodies. Especially for our children. Strengthening the immune system and utilizing natural remedies can help repair the damage caused by these drugs.
Garlic can be especially useful in combating resistant strains of bacteria and may even be used to help with a common cold. With powerful antibacterial properties, garlic is a great natural alternative that works without disturbing the natural flora of the gut. What we eat can have an incredible effect on our gut health and may likely help address issues that are currently being over-medicated with harmful antibiotics.
Whether battling childhood obesity or cancer, what we put into our bodies matters. You can protect yourself and your family by arming yourself with the truth, and by making healthy choices each day.

I am concerned and confused about your decision to cut all ties with Organixx. What is the reasoning behind this, if I may ask. I’m a loyal subscriber to both your emails, etc. and order from Organixx sometimes. I would really like to know, as I’m sure others would, why have you distanced yourselves? I know it would probably be awkward to reveal the reason(s), but if their products do not meet your standards any longer, it would behoove you to let us know so we can possibly adjust our purchasing of them.
I have ordered from Organixx and stopped because of the price! It is way over the top expensive for what you get. I have found other products that do the same thing for less than half the price!!
Karen: I have exactly the same concerns as you do. I e-mailed Ty basically the same questions and I did not receive a response. I am leaning towards not purchasing anymore products from Organixx. Maybe that is drastic but I don’t do good with doubt. I try to follow my intuision. Beverly
I have thought about this long and hard, too. I’ve come to realize that whatever their reasons, be it ethical or legal, Ty and Charlene don’t strike me as people who make decisions lightly. Further, why would they open themselves up to such criticism as they’ve received (including from me)? Why say anything at all if it wasn’t info they felt the need to share? Instead, they did inform us (again, whether for ethical or legal reasons) and in the best way they could given the restrictions they are obviously bound by. Besides, we all need to be vigilant, investigating for ourselves the companies and manufacturing practices behind any supplements we use.
I am not going to trust anymore to Ty since he is not disclosing us the truth about why he split up with Organixx. . I was ready to purchase his series but the trust is broken.
Hi Katarina,
We are not able to share further information at this time. Thank you all for being with us! We love you all and hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
Karen, I had the same question – I take the quality of supplements very seriously as a cancer survivor and love what TTAC does. I got second hand news (take only as that) that the partnership split on amicable terms in the interest of all parties. From a business perspective, it makes sense to me that Ty and Charlene would not want direct interest in the products they recommend. It keeps them more neutral and investigative /informative. As CHristians, they hold themselves highly accountable for their choices as ones that have divine good and purpose. I trust their decisions.
Years ago, I got a bad ear infection in both ears due to an accidental toxic chemical exposure that caused burns and tissue damage. The ENT specialist literally threatened me that if I didn’t take an antibiotic, steroids and antibiotic drops that I’d end up with “Cauliflower Ear.” Well, I took homeopathic drops orally (called Bio 87) and herbal ear drops that included garlic and the infection was gone within days. When the specialist saw the drastic recovery, she was shocked at what I achieved without toxic antibiotics and simply said, “It sure worked.”
What a great story! Uplifting to know we can sometimes have good results without antibiotics.

Not only is garlic of of nature’s many antibiotics, it’s tastes delicious! I eat a few raw cloves everyday and have done so all my life before knowing all the great things it does. Who knew my tasty snack was so good for you? I guess it explains why I haven’t needed a doctor in years. The irony is I can grow just about any vegetable but garlic eludes me, go figure. I’ll keep trying, one day I’ll succed, then I have all the garlic my heart desires right in my own back garden.
Don’t you stink??
No,I don’t stink, but I do glow with excellent health 😉
Garlic is THE easiest to grow. Would you like to know how I do it? I grow about 80 a year.
Yes! Please teach me what I’m doing wrong. I love garlic and hate having to buy it when I can grow my own. Any advice will be very much welcomed.
Ty,
If you are so determined to educate us about antibiotics – especially when comes to our babies, what a parent should do when their infant gets bad ear infections?
For ex, How am I suppose to convince an infant to eat garlic ?
For babies in my clinic I recommend the use of Colloidal Silver. I get the parents to add it to the baby’s drinks but also drop it in the ear. With older children I use a solution of hydrogen peroxide. Both seem to work well.
Hi, Lumsi
My daughter had ear infections all the time (back in the late 1980’s). The pediatrician gave her antibiotics after antibiotics and she continued to have them. Finally he said he did not feel giving her antibiotics was of any use. He suggested trying Rescon G-G (a liquid) manufactured locally in Fort Worth…no prescription required but hard to find. We gave her the fluid and her ear aches were shortly gone. Anytime ear problems re-occurred, we gave her the fluid and she recovered.
My daughter did become overweight in the 5th grade. Perhaps that was from all the antibiotic treatment in her early childhood.
I use an ear drop I get from the health food store. It has a lot of garlic oil in it.
I would make an infusion of mashed garlic in olive oil and put a few drops directly in the infant’s ear. A small bit of cotton ball could prevent it from draining out on clothing.
Garlic does very effectively prevent and terminate infections both Bact and Vir.. This is my experience. However just the above is not enough information. Antibiotic. recommendations always come with dose amounts, doses/day and a dose delivery method. There is also a list of allergy symptoms to observe should they develop and indicate a need to stop the medicine.
Herbs, spices and vitamins can act like powerful medicines in both curing and having undesirable side effects. Natural medicines (herb and others) need be prescribed in the same way a doctor would prescribe the use of his /her recommendation; ie. dose amounts, doses/day and a dose delivery methods. Just telling someone to use garlic or black pepper or a spice, all known to generally be of benefit, is not enough to be useful and could result in ineffectiveness or harm if under utilized or overdone. The way to suggest a natural remedy is to point the person needing it to websites or a natural medicine MD to find out how to use it and how to monitor for results and safety.
My concern: Giving a baby raw garlic (which can burn the baby’s throat) as an experiment to see if it remedies an illness is not a good idea. An illness needs an MD. Adding a beneficial herb, spice or vitamin in a small test quantity to solid food for a non-sick baby to see if the baby can handle it is a better approach provided research is performed before doing this to learn acceptable dose levels, delivery methods and possible side effects. My advice: is to consult a natural medicine MD with experience in pediatrics for what you want to attempt before implementing it. Best wishes.
I have the same interest as others in the, why you left Orgainxx
I have found colloidal silver, used topically, very helpful with infections.
Breast milk in the infants ear is helpful. When breast milk is unavailable, cut an onion in half and bake it cut side down on a baking sheet at 350 until soft. Place as close to the ear as the heat will allow eventually lay the ear directly over the hot onion. The child may fall asleep on it. May be used on a dog as well. You may repeat as necessary but often one application does the trick. It was not helpful on my dog with chronic ear infections but was on a puppy with an acute ear infection.
